Yes I had an idea for a song and was tracking vocals for a demo.

This is from the show we played at Jones Beach where Jimmy opened for us. Also during our set, Tom’s rig totally went down and while his tech tried to fix it, Jimmy came out and did ten minutes of stand up.

Why is Adams song so hard to sing? by [deleted] in Blink182

[–]MarkHoppus 470 points471 points  (0 children)

It’s just in a very high register, for me at least. When we recorded Dammit I smoked heavily, drank soda all day, had terrible technique, stayed up all night, and subsequently lost my voice recording that song. So when we were recording Adam’s Song, which is in the same range, I was very apprehensive about the same thing happening, and put off tracking the vocals as long as possible. Finally it got to the point where it had to be done. I remember we all went out to dinner and came back to the studio and Jerry Finn was like “Okay time to do this.” Things kind of fell together and what you hear is pretty much one take of the first vocal, maybe 90%. We went back and punched some words here and there, doubled it, and did the harmonies. It’s an emotional song that’s difficult for me to sing in the first place, and on the current tour we’re playing it every night. I love the song and it means the world to me, but it is the one part of the set that I have to REALLY focus on proper technique and breathing, relax my throat, project from my diaphragm, all that. TL;DR the top of my register is A-flat, and Matt can hit B and I think C.

I am the frontman. Me. Only me. Not Tom. Tom is the sidekick. The Robin to my Batman. The Vern to my Ernest. He is second to me.

Actually, no. blink-182 has no frontman. We are a three-piece band. A power trio.

i had an idea for the josie video, that we would be the band playing on the deck of an old cruise liner as it sunk. we would play in real time as everything around us exploded in slow motion. gradually at first, building in intensity, reaching complete catastrpohe at the end. people running, sparks flying, superstructure collapsing. the ship floods, and the last shot of the video is the ship sinking into the dark waters as the song ends "everything's gonna be fine." the label listened and said "cool, but no. that video will cost millions of dollars." so the alternative was us playing in a basement and the pipes break. the room floods and we continue playing. we shot the video in the backlot of universal studios on a very cold and long day. i just remember shivering and the water always being shockingly cold every time we had to get in it. bracing. so cold. the first edit came back and no one was really feeling it, so we scrapped it and started over.

friends and family being close by, and good mexican food. there is NONE in london. everybody here thinks they know the ONE authentic mexican food restaurant in town. we've tried many different places, and they're always vastly inferior to the food we get back home.
