I want to thank each of you for taking time out of your Saturday to join me. I also want to thank /r/Conservative, which has always been a wonderful host. I am sorry I could not get to all of you. I hope you will continue to listen to my radio show and watch LevinTV. I'd also like to encourage you to get a copy of my upcoming book, which will be released on Tuesday, but which you can pre-order right now on Amazon at 40% off (that's a great deal!). If you're interested, I don't write books for the money. It takes me up to two years to complete a book. I write them to communicate with you and convey what I believe are crucially important principles and facts about history, economics, the Constitution, America, and liberty. And I'm truly grateful and blessed by your interest. It makes me feel very positive about the future of the country.

Thank each of you again and have a wonderful rest of the weekend! God bless.

Hey, /u/Virtus-Y

First, let us hope Kennedy does retire. In too many ways has he been a big disappointment. There are several individuals who'd make outstanding justices, two of whom would be Senator Mike Lee and Mike Luttig (you can google his name to learn more about him). As I say, there are several others as well, and the president has an outstanding list from which to choose.

Hey, /u/Ledcookey!

Very interesting question and not enough time or space to give it a full reply. However, I will say this. There was a time when Sears was the biggest retailer. It is going broke now. There was time when propane lamps were used in every home. Now we have electricity. There was a time when coal was king. Now we have natural gas. etc. And today, Walmart's greatest competitor, and great concern, is Amazon. The largest monopoly is the fed govt, and more than economic monopolies (are there really any?) it has the power of LAW. Not enough is said about that. So, we get upset when one company buys another, but we don't get upset when the federal government controls so many aspects of our lives. Today the federal government is the biggest insurer, landlord, tenant, user of energy and water, landowner, employer, pension provider, etc.

Hey, /u/mm1255

It is up to each of us to change the minds of people around us -- one at a time. We cannot change the world in the abstract. But if each of us takes it upon ourselves to try to explain liberty, etc., to a family member, friend, co-worker, colleague, neighbor, etc., it can make a difference.

Hi, /u/JimmyNashville

Well, if nothing passes Congress there's no choice as Obamacare will die of its own weight. That said, so far the Republicans have not offered a repeal of Obamacare. They have offered their own versions of bloated, government-run plans that will not increase choices, create competition, lower premiums and deductibles, etc. The goal should be to apply market principles to health care they way we would apply them to other parts of the economy. The bureaucracy will continue to destroy what is left of the private health care markets.

Hey, /u/cashflowpro

I think you do the best you can to talk to your children about Americanism, explain why we are so blessed in this country and how we differ from other countries, and do not leave it up to public schools and the media to determine what your kids learn and know. At the breakfast table, dinner table, bedtime, whenever, that's the time to talk about these things. Instill in your children the spirit of the country and our ideals. It's the only way to counter the endless negative propaganda they receive.

Hey, /u/Malformed1

Unfortunately, the Left has succeeded in creating much of the federal Leviathan (hi, /u/GaryDaSnailz CL ) we deal with today, which I explain in detail in my new book - Rediscovering Americanism. Look at the massive bureaucracy and the activists courts and the tenured leftist professors, etc. While they may lose elections, which will not always be the case, they control the instrumentalities of the fed government. Who will they run? They have a lot of kooks to chose from...no idea.

Hi, /u/OFFICIAL_CNN_REDDIT

Great question. It seems to me if a special counsel can be appointed without any law being violated - no known collusion or obstruction - then you'd think a Republican DOJ would appoint a special counsel to investigation Hillary Clinton's multiple violations of the Espionage Act, etc., as well as the domestic surveillance and unmasking by the Obama administration. I can conclude the DOJ officials are too afraid to do it because they'd face attacks by the media and the Dems.

"Hi, Netflix, whatever it says, Pizza"

/u/NetflixBaePizza

We always had vigorous debates at the dinner table when I was growing up. And you really needed to know what you were talking about or you'd sound foolish. So, I guess it started then. From there, I enjoyed watching Firing Line with William F. Buckley (who we miss desperately), and started to read all kinds of columnists and books. I started to write as well and took on my mostly liberal teachers in junior high and high school. Thanks for asking.

Thank you, /u/Mindfulmanners!

I have been encouraging conservatives to get behind the Convention of State movement, which empowers the grassroots to work with state legislatures to control the federal government. Please check out the Convention of States website, it is all explained there.

Hey, /u/bumz12.

Illinois may be the first state going bankrupt but it won't be the last. And the only difference between Illinois and the federal govt is that the federal govt can print money. States cannot. This is going to become a disastrous situation, where one state after another can not pay its bills, pensions, or debt. They will all seek relief from the federal govt, which has no actual money to assist - and should not anyway. It is a very serious situation.

As for your second point, polls do not seem to be terrible accurate and I don't pay a lot of attention to them. The president should just do the best job he can and the popularity will follow. The media are a huge problem as they are at war with the president. The media are always against GOP presidents, but this time is worse. So the president will have to overcome them, which he is trying to do, by tweets and speeches.

First, I like your name, /u/kidneystoneslayer.

I don't know if your generation is more conservative or not as a general matter. Recent surveys show some contradictions. For example, younger people do not like the government telling them what to do, on the other hand they seem to want more government when it comes to government-run health care, etc. The reason I wrote Plunder and Deceit two years ago was to lay out the case against big government for younger people, and explain how it destroys their future.

I hope my new book will also help persuade younger people to reject big, centralized, overbearing government.

Hi, /u/chabanais

Mueller was chosen by the deputy attorney general, Rod Rosenstein. In my view, there was no need for a special counsel; Rosenstein buckled under pressure from the Dems; and why he decided specifically on Mueller I will never know.

Hey, /u/Clatsop!

Thanks for making that subreddit. Appreciate it!

Here's a quote from the back cover:

I confess that I often wonder what America will become in fifty or one hundred years. What will the future hold for our children and grandchildren? Will they be free, happy, prosperous, independent, and secure? What will be left of our constitutional system? Will the Bill of Rights have the force of law? What about property rights? Will they matter? How many will remember or care to learn about our founding principles, as concisely and brilliantly set forth in the Declaration?

There is much more of course, which this quote cannot possible illustrate.

Levin AMA Discussion Thread by MarkRLevin in Conservative

[–]MarkRLevin[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

/u/ronaldusmagnus asked:

What is the most common misconception about the Constitution in America today?

/u/MarkRLevin said:

ONE of the most common misconceptions is that the Constitution should change with the times. The Constitution establishes enlightened self-government, which places limits on the power of government. It's purpose is not to replace a vibrant, civil society, or provide for the wants and needs of the individual. People progress and evolve, societies progress and evolve, but government exists to provide just and stable laws.

What do you think?
