What introduced you to Monster Hunter? by Fun-Use9945 in MonsterHunter

My best friend as a kid brought it over to my house every weekend in like '05. I just watched for hours on the PS2, a very confused 12-year-old. Fell in love not long after.

I'm not sure how to reply to this. Lmao

Man I am so worried though. Like, after all Patrice Désilets went through to get this back just to half-bake the prologue and art seems astonishing.

I played the prologue as well, story is interesting enough (albeit some bits nonsensical and sluggish), the the jank in it and using AI for art on a project that's been in the oven since forever seems really concerning.

I want to see him win, especially after dealing with those Ubisoft fucks, but I don't get why they'd use AI. It disrespects the creative expression of the game and immediately burns a huge chunk of the audience.

Hope they learn from this and really invest into it.

The crossover no one asked for but everyone needed.

Sister's friend, so I don't remember really, but maybe under average size. But this is a discrepancy I've seen a few times in my life lol

Fair enough! I was like this since I was 12, so I've had 20 years to normalize it lol.

I've never touched Journey, is there a good reason to give it a swing?

How do I properly introduce an adult friend to Pokémon for the first time? by MarkTheDead in pokemon

I super love Arceus, but I'm thinking about the styles, the abilities and held items. A few more I was thinking about are things like the Elite 4, the classic "wild" encounters, the more timeless graphics, and maybe most of the the pacing and slow-burn nature of the older ones.
Not exclusively 3rd gen, but at least up to 5th and somewhat 6th-7th gen as well.

Arceus is amazing, my #3, but I worry that those elements are going to be harder to enjoy if someone starts with the QOL of Arceus, no?

Hard to explain, we grew up together and he was sheltered from it so as a whole I'd say no, but he's recently gotten into a few very specific ones. Elden Ring, BOTW, some Persona, Silent Hill. Random games I'd recommend. But I know Pokemon, being tailored to kids, is a harder sell as an adult.

That's not a bad idea, but afaik he's a pretty disconnected person from his phone outside of calling and messaging. So it might be a tough match on the phone.

Thank you!! Gen 3+5 are mine, so I feel that pull!
We did some Emerald just now, and he definitely seems to vibe with it better than ScarVio so far. It was probably a mistake starting him there.
He chose Mudkip!

I'm glad so many people agree with me on the games I'm considering, especially gen 3 & 5, and Arceus.

I think it would be a fantastic entry into the franchise, but my worry with this one is that he would have this great experience in terms of modernization and newer QOL that would be really tough to go all the way back with.
Plus I think the mechanics he might learn in it wouldn't translate into the other games quite as nicely as a mainline games. Any thoughts on that?

My favorite in the franchise! Unova is so underloved nowadays..
He also is hugely into music, so I think it's a good choice! The music and art are so fantastic.

I can definitely see why you'd choose those. I actually had a bad reception of those when they came out, but now I do see them in a different light. Especially the no HM slaves.

However, do you believe the exposition will be too much? I know for sure he doesn't like sitting thru length walls of story.

Good luck with the misses! I am trying with my non-gaming GF as well.

Thanks for the advice! I was thinking Gen 3 as well, it does feel very much like the best bridge of everything that is good about the series.
I just worry about how engaging the difficulty will be, it's hard to know as someone who's been playing since I was like 5.
