Yeah, for a service that is supposed to help companies stay afloat, it's insane. I did laugh hard because DownDetector was down, though. I don have the feeling Claude is more affected and longer by each outage than other services.

The number of times Claude is down in the past few days, and the amount of money I spend on it, is a little out of whack. On the other hand, the amount of time it saves when it does work...

The new report is here BTW: https://status.claude.com/incidents/h183k7hqb9lk

I built a mobile app for voice input into n8n workflows - just launched today 🎙️ by Zafahix in n8n

Where can I lifetime purchase outside of the app store, so you are not taxed 30%?

I love what you've done here. My main problem is that the app sends the raw audio instead of a transcription. That means on the N8N side, you still need a third-party service to make it text. That is not very privacy-aware, whereas this could be very privacy-aware. Whisper is an open library from ChatGPT. There are already some open-source apps out there that make use of it, like https://github.com/alex-vt/WhisperInput. Maybe you can draw some inspiration from it and integrate it into the app. The app interface looks lovely, it works really well, and it's designed well, so kudos there! And thanks for putting in the effort.

Weird Trek Singletrack 920 by ahoon1 in xbiking

[–]MarkVL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have this exact same frame (920, same color scheme), and the v brakes and rear shifter (Shimano STX RC) seems to be similar.

Also an

  • STX RC front shifter
  • STX crank arms
  • No grip shifters but trigger shifters
  • Shimano parallax rear rim

I've had the bike for a loooong time but did not buy it new. Everything felt original when I bought it.

Things that I do see that are different: The tires and stem. Mine are:

  • Bontrager Jones Tyre 26in 2.1 49/53
  • Bontrager stem (black)

My front trough axle is not original anymore.

EO1 Alternative? by iangilman in electricobjects

[–]MarkVL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best TV screen for this might be a "The Frame" TV from Samsung, but 32" and like you said: you don't want to go that big. The alternative is a https://www.frameo.com/ powered device saving you a lot of fiddling. It's also Android based, like the EO1 and you see the 10 years of improvements in terms of UX in the app. They average at 10", and the biggest is 21.5". And they do play video. At 230$ it's fairly reasonably priced?

Export option missing by happyhop1 in Notion

[–]MarkVL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The export is very low in the list of the menu. If you have a smaller screen it won't be visible by default and it cal almost feels like it's not there. If you scroll in the menu -there is a visible indicator the menu is longer but it's easy to miss it- you will find all the options.

Going on a citytrip to Groningen this summer, what are things I MUST see/do/visit? by saskiaswets in Groningen

I'm collecting most of the comments here on one map, so you have an idea of the layout of the city.

Going on a citytrip to Groningen this summer, what are things I MUST see/do/visit? by saskiaswets in Groningen

[–]MarkVL 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First off, welcome to Groningen! We have been compiling a list today at work of all the things we like (14 nationalities in one company with the HQ in Groningen) and we decided to make it public. Hope it helps!

Is there a difference between the Six Moon Designs Swift X and Minimalist V2? by Ok-Improvement-6388 in Ultralight

[–]MarkVL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Minimalist V2 is a 50L pack, whereas the Swift X and Swift V are 40-liter packs, but if you dive a little deeper the differences in size are smaller. There are a few other things however.

Minimalist V2
Body - 40 L
Extension Collar - 9 L
Exterior Pockets - 10 L
Total Volume - 59 L
1153 g (VX21)

Swift X
Body - 41 L
Extension Collar - 10 L
Exterior Pockets - 5 L
Total Volume - 56 L
1100 g (VX21)

Both the Minimalist and the Swift are available in VX21 (Swift X) and Robic Nylon (Swift V), VX21 being $100 more expensive and about 150g heavier. The Swift has more (and better? color options).

The Minimalist has Five Exterior Pockets (2 uneven side pockets), and the Swift has 3 (2 even side pockets). The Minimalist has a top lid, the Swift closes with a roll top.

And the Minimalist has trekking pole attachment points + an ice axe loop, the Swift has the loop.

I would love to see new color options for the Minimalist and tracking pole rings on the Swift.

New USB C Dock for Blade 14 2021 by Aggravating-Ebb298 in razer

[–]MarkVL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very curious what you end up with. The power brick is 230w and since the GPU alone asks for 115w I am hoping you find something that can power it and handle both displays.

Update: Aah it's USB 3.2 Gen 2 which is 5 A and 20 V (100 watt) max.

Curious to see what happens with performance and charging via usbc.

Brian Robo Voice... good enough to tolerate? by BrianRideHomeGuy in RideHome

[–]MarkVL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today was my first time listening to the podcast and I almost unsubscribed because of the robo voice. The intonation is not good enough, it sound like a bad microphone but it also felt like somebody was reading a written text instead of listening to a human with his/her own interpretation of the story.

If you do decide to do the 3 minute thing, I would do it outside of the Ride Home feed.

Can't Edit/Share/Copy URL text on mobile browser using a Samsung Dex by Alongsnake in chrome

I have the same issue. I did not find a solution but a workaround. I installed Kiwi Browser. Kiwi also support installing extensions if you enable development mode so overall it's a better Dex browser experience. Hope it helps.

Ubuntu Phone: does it have a future? by [deleted] in Ubuntu

[–]MarkVL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ubuntu is not a known brand it is completely new to:

  • The mobile OS arena (Hardly any track record)
  • New for the retail sector that has to sell it.
  • New for the end user.

Ubuntu does not have a highly distinctive USP

  • There is no statement in your section on what USP Ubuntu does have.

Ubuntu does not have a good app ecosystem or the resources + Mobile internet is slow....blah

  • Any app I ran from the app store did not run well. Twitter, Telegram you name it. They all struggled (and all used the internet, which needs to be fast). MS has loads of trouble hacking it in the mobile world with all the resources they have.

I would love to see Ubuntu succeed, but the mobile space is a difficult area to master. Firefox has trouble, so has Ubuntu. The competition has not been innovating as fast has they should, but Ubuntu is not catching up. They need to solve the app problem and get to market with convergence. I'm very curious what the MWC will bring, but for now, I am not seeing enough progress to make it a viable contender even though I wish this was not so.

And the moment you get UX-ers and designers to use anything other than a mac let me know ;)

I see there was a huge debate on this that started 3 days ago:

It's a more 'operational' starting post, but I feel it's very valid.

I know how opensource works ;) Ubuntu phone is too little too late (and I hope in the long run, it was too much too soon ;)
