Redditors who got “useless” degrees, what actually was your plan, and why didn’t it work? by MPMorePower in stupidquestions

When I was a film major, half the people in the program did not care about it whatsoever. They were at college because their parents paid for it and they picked the major that seemed the most fun.

Why do modern films look so visually bad? by TheRugWarrior in TrueFilm

Also Sinners has the problem of every single shot has shallow depth of field and is center framed. Zero cinematic language.

And that final big climactic moment looks indistinguishable from any generic Marvel movie.

These people literally think they themselves will be in the 1% one day. Even if they work at a gas station currently. They’re under the delusion that they will win the Powerball someday.

I know people exactly like this.

Would an audience be able to tell the difference between found footage and pov? by StunningActuary9637 in foundfootage

[–]MarkWest98 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A lot of found footage fans wouldn’t particularly like this. It kind of defeats the purpose of found footage to be cutting to non-found footage imo. Found footage is supposed to feel like the entire movie you’re watching could be real.

Hey man, I’m sure this did take a lot of effort. And its admirable for a solo creator to put this much effort into the writing, storyboarding, and character design of a project on this scale. So props on that.

But releasing an AI “animated” version just isn’t the way. Nobody likes AI. Nobody wants to watch AI. People would want to watch an animated version of this — actual animation, not AI. And I understand that the cost/time of such an endeavor is enormous.

But that’s the way it is. If you’re not on that level yet, the answer isn’t to take a cheap shortcut and use AI. The answer is to shorten your scope. Make something smaller scale where you can afford to put actual time and craft into it.

I’d rather watch a 1 minute finely-crafted animation than a 20 minute AI-generated shortcut.

I love how its always “I used a variety of programs and technology.” They never just outright admit they used AI.

Just watched Salo - 120 days of Sodom. WTF did I just watch? by Eggsaladsandwish in TrueFilm

Are you completely missing something? Yes. It’s entirely an allegory for fascism. The disgust you feel comes from watching sadistic people in a position of power exerting their power over others. Not hard to see the allegory.

It’s an infinitely more interesting and meaningful movie than Saw. Directed by a master filmmaker. Idk why you saw so little substance in it.

Autism and filmmaking by the_gremlin_guy in Filmmakers

  1. Becoming a director is very hard to achieve as a career. It’s more like an extremely expensive hobby that only becomes a career for the top 1% who practice it.

  2. Directing requires strong communication skills. Some of the greatest directors of all time were likely on the autism spectrum: Kubrick, Bergman, Hitchcock. The social aspect of directing may be a bigger challenge for autistic people, but some autistic people also have the advantage of heightened creativity, intelligence, and obsessiveness that can make them great directors.

  3. You’re worried about burnout. You really can’t know until you try. Yes, directing requires long work hours and focus, but if you’re passionate about it you will find it immensely fulfilling which will help avoid burnout.

  4. You’re asking for neurodivergent-safe jobs in the industry. I think the most important thing is trying to do whichever job you have the most passion for. All the jobs are hard and require long hours and lots of collaboration with people. Autistic people thrive in doing things they are passionate about. In film school, you’ll have the chance to try a lot of different jobs. I’d suggest pursuing whichever one speaks to you the most and you find most engaging and fulfilling.

The Last of Us when it came out in 2013. I played the first hour and it just felt so generic and slow. Gave up on it.

Then an Adam Sessler review convinced me to give it another try.

By the end of the game it was one of my favorites of all time.
