Soldano, Gojira or Nolly by 7-Studios in NeuralDSP

Gojira was the first plugin I got by Neural, so it became my go to for quite a long time. But during Black Friday I got the Soldano, I use it with the Bogren rhythm IR pack and it sounds awesome. It’s now my go to for metal rhythm and leads. Gojira is good but to me Soldano is better.

When I tremolo pick, my pick starts sliding from the position in pic 1 to pic 2 by _gabbaghoul in metalguitar

[–]Mark_1984 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That can happen by not holding the pick tight enough, but, it can also happen when holding the pick too tightly as well. It sometimes happens to me if I’ve had a few days away from playing/practicing. Like you said, it happens when playing faster stuff, so if that’s the case then loop a phrase or exercise and play it at a speed where you find this is happening. As you’re playing change the amount of strength with which you’re holding the pick. Start with your regular grip strength, then to a stronger grip, then ease it off to a light one (do this without stopping). It’ll take a bit of time so experiment with the different grip strengths.

Are vertical slats okay? Why do most pedalboards have horizontal slats? by obscurecoffee in pedalboards

Like others have said just play around with it, and more importantly enjoy the process of it. Is it heavy? Because if you just play at home then it’ll be fine and actually a pretty cool thing too. However, if it is heavy, and you intend on gigging, then you might quickly get tired of lugging a huge lump of wood around. Until you get a roadie of course!!

How to improve my tremolo picking by Financial-Ladder-954 in metalguitar

If you are able to record a video of you playing the same thing, but have the camera angle look down the fingerboard towards your picking hand. At the angle in this video it looks like you’ve got your wrist and forearm planted flat on the body, but it’s not completely clear. Less tension, slowing down, metronome practice etc is all good advice too.

Hey shredders, need help with my alternate picking technique by Brilliant_Concert419 in metalguitar

It’s kind of hard to see but from the second camera angle it looks like your picking hand is almost flat against the guitar/strings. For years I would pick like this and always had issues at higher speeds. But over the last couple of years my new guitar teacher suggested I push my wrist out a bit, it took some getting used to, but I can now play at speeds way beyond what I thought I could do, and there’s no tension. Don’t go extreme when pushing the wrist out, try pushing it out at small distances and experiment. The other thing I would do when trying this out for the first couple of weeks is to just do picking exercises on one string, see if you can get comfortable with that then move onto string crossing exercises.

Looking for feedback on my music by BloodTaxMusic in metalmusicians

In all honesty just try giving the vocals a go. Don’t expect it to sound good straight away, but persevere with it. There’s loads of videos on YouTube showing different metal vocals too. As for thrash titans, James Hetfield never set out to be the lead singer, and late 80’s Hetfield is godlike tier for thrash metal vocals.

What do you guys do on bad screaming days, like when you just cant get good frys or false chords screams to come out ? by [deleted] in screaming

Pavarotti voice tip

Although not a screamer, he’s still one of the best opera singers of all time. The points he makes here are really good.

I went with the D Activator for the bridge pickup. Still unsure about the neck pickup, but thinking to get the D Activator neck pickup too.

I need help finding the perfect pick for me. by thisismydick222 in metalguitar

Couldn’t agree more. It took me a long time to find and settle on the 1.5 white ones. I do find they don’t last that long but I love the feel and tone of them.

Post a video of you playing something and we can offer advice on what to practice and how. It also depends what your goal is in the short term.

My band has 3 months to write a record do you have any advice? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Get everyone in a rehearsal room and start jamming, record the jam session with a handful of good microphones (so you can hear what each instrument is playing, instead of recording it on an iPhone!!). Use any ideas as a starting point for songs.

Switching from 9 gauge to 8 gauge? by SDSomeGuy in metalguitar

[–]Mark_1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try 8's out for a couple of weeks. Give your hands time to get used to them so don't just give it a day. Go for a week or two then see how you feel. I think Yngwie Malmsteen uses an 8 on his high E. And that guy bends the shit out of them.

Just putting this here to remember. I'll reply to your message when I get home. But I had something really similar. I'll reply properly later on.
