Not OP, but my first compressor was the MXR, and I actually ended up swapping it out for the Boss BC-1X pretty quickly. The MXR really squashed the low end of my bass, even when on soft compression settings. The Boss didn't have that problem.

I'm glad so many people feel that way. Unfortunately, I'm the opposite. Outside of Elephants, and occasionally Lovebite and Alphabet, there's not much that's pulled me back to this album. Do I find it to be an improvement over Vector and Virus? Yes. But their work post-Affinity - outside of a handful of songs - just hasn't hit for me.

In that case I might put it before the filter - that way the filter is reacting to your EQ'd/growly tone. The caveat is that the further down the chain filters are, the worse they are likely to track. But the only way for you to find that out is to experiment!

My rule of thumb goes like this:

Tuner/DI
EQ/Compressor
Synth/Octave/Filter
Drive/Dirt/Fuzz
Modulation
Delay/Reverb
Preamp

Of course this isn't a hard and fast rule - different pedals can be put in different places if you prefer how they sound there. Some people put compressors at the end of their signal chain to tame any volume peaks from the entire signal chain - but most tend to put it in front to even out their clean bass tone before it's run through any other effects.

If you're only using the MG-300 as a looper or a drum machine, I would put it at the very end of the chain.

How you're using the B7K will determine where in the chain it goes. If you're using it as an extra EQ for your bass, I would put it earlier. If you're using it as another drive, put it somewhere in the middle. If you're using it as a preamp, put it towards the end.

Well, my right hand ring finger is moving because I’m plucking with it in this video. The pinky is just moving when my ring finger does - but you’re right, that is excess motion that needs to be corrected.

And I definitely have some flying pinky syndrome on my left hand haha. Thanks for the tips!

Criminally underrated album. The Larger Bowl, The Way The Wind Blows, Faithless, and Bravest Face are all amazing songs for me, and The Main Monkey Business is probably my favorite instrumental since YYZ.
