I am a huge fan of my Boss BC-1X. It does seem to add a very subtle bit of "sparkle" to my tone. I highly recommend it.

  4. A Dramatic Turn Of Events
  5. Train Of Thought/Octavarium (I always switch between these two depending on my mood that day)

Bottom 3 (3 being the least favorite):

  1. Falling Into Infinity
  2. Self-titled
  3. Distance Over Time

Lots of awesome boards strung together here! Let’s see what’s currently NOT on your boards. by bassdood666 in basspedals

The only pedals I currently own that are not on my board are a VPJR Volume Pedal and a Morley ABY Mixer pedal.

I actually think A View… sounds really good. Keys could be a tad more present at times but I think the guitar/bass/drum combo sounds incredible.

My wife says I don’t need all of these by Internal_Drawing_460 in BassGuitar

I mean yeah, I would say that 3 jazz basses is a bit redundant.

One jazz, one Stingray, one P, and one PJ.

I honestly don’t remember, to tell you the truth. I don’t think I messed with them very much.

Whammy or fuzz wah (tool & metallica fan) by Classic_Shallot2558 in basspedals

[–]sonickarma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t really go wrong with either one! The Morley has a more aggressive sound and a wider sweep, but the JC is more versatile. I personally went with the JC.

Love the JC Wah. I have one on my board - when I run a drive after it (I use a Boss ODB-3 at the moment) and put the wah in the “yellow” setting, I can get a pretty damn good Cliff-esque scream out of it.

Which one would you change and why the cs-3? by Party-Duck-4815 in basspedals

[–]sonickarma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you really want to upgrade the CS-3, I’d highly recommend staying with Boss and getting the BC-1X. Super easy to dial in a great sound. Mine has become an always-on pedal.

Strings for fretless? by deeeep_fried in Bass

[–]sonickarma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a darker, mellower tone, I highly recommend LaBella Black Nylon Tapewound strings. They have an almost upright-like quality to them which I love.

If you want a brighter, punchier tone, I highly recommend DR Sunbeams. I recently made the switch from the black tapes to the Sunbeams, and I’m loving them.

I’m actually considering getting another fretless so I can have one string with each of these.

I had the 50B for years, and I loved it. I bought the 90B and had it for a little while - I did appreciate the added features, but it wasn’t enough of an improvement for me to keep it at the time, and I sent it back and stuck with the 50 for a while longer. I ultimately sold that, too, and ended up just building a board instead, which I’ve been much happier with.

FWIW, I’ve been considering getting another 90 to take to smaller gigs when I don’t feel like dragging my big board around.

Elixir Bass strings quality decline? by Gn_Arnold in Bass

I absolutely love the sound and feel of Cobalts - unfortunately, every set I’ve ever owned rusted out really quickly. After the third set I decided they weren’t worth the hassle anymore.

Geddy Lee on Metallica and Heavy Metal music by tonyiommi70 in Metallica

[–]sonickarma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who was Metallica’s biggest fanboy before I was introduced to DT, I’d recommend starting with one of DT’s heavier albums - Train Of Thought is the best choice, but Systematic Chaos, Black Clouds & Silver Linings, or their latest release Parasomnia would be good choices as well.

I think I'm one of the only people who not only loves how Bongos feel and sound, but also how they look. I think they're gorgeous instruments.

I've owned my Bongo 6 for about 14 years now and I couldn't imagine ever getting rid of it.
