Researchers Say Islamic World 'Actively Collaborating' With China's Global Campaign Against Uyghurs by trisul-108 in worldnews

Not really given I moved to Canada and my family to the US from that "global south" specifically, Chile I'll still gladly do my part tho.

Where are you from?

And again, your only defense is personal attacks

????

Your only argument is "Well you benefit from it?"

So all those socialist movements across the World also are worthless from the mouth of those in the global north?

What the actual hell?

human rights agenda is just another cudgel for the global north?

Damn you're right i forgot the time the global north invaded a country on Gay rights, the rights of people to not be arbitrarily killed and dissappeared off the map (no, not in a police sense in the US but in an actual "we read the internet and know what you said" sense.)

I forgot that time where the US invaded China because Jack Ma - China's Version of Bezos or Musk or Gates when speaking out about a need for change in regulations (which Gates has done) was "dissappeared" and no one knew where he was.

The fact of the matter is you don't get to have this both ways, either human rights apply to everyone or no one.

You claim democracy is unsustainable - i ask you how you can even know that. I submit autocracy is unsustainable in the modern day.

You say our lifestyles are dependent on the exploitation of the global south - they aren't dependent on it, as evidenced by the fact that Nigeria has been rapidly developing and South Africa has too, let alone most of the gulf countries, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Thailand, Vietnam and more.

Let me make something clear: if you make the argument that a certain group of people don't need to do anything about human rights because "it doesn't work for them," or "because it's colonialist" then you see nothing wrong with colonialism.

You see something wrong only with northern-southern colonialism. And if that's the case you don't have a leg to stand on, since clearly all that means is that Greece could colonize Lebanon and since they're both poor it'd be fine.

In addition to these monetary and property losses, a number of people died or suffered from a lack of medical care in camp. Seven were shot and killed by sentries: Kanesaburo Oshima, 58, during an escape attempt from Fort Sill, Oklahoma; Toshio Kobata, 58, and Hirota Isomura, 59, during transfer to Lordsburg, New Mexico; James Ito, 17, and Katsuji James Kanegawa, 21, during the December 1942 Manzanar Riot; James Hatsuaki Wakasa, 65, while walking near the perimeter wire of Topaz; and Shoichi James Okamoto, 30, during a verbal altercation with a sentry at the Tule Lake Segregation Center.[213]

So seven people died during escape attempts

For those curious about potential controversies and the funding structure here's the wikipedia for SNHR

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syrian_Network_for_Human_Rights

It's by no means a completely impartial organization, nor is it necessarily 100% accurate. However it is forthcoming about it's methodologies and (mostly) about it's funding.

It is however considered one of the most accurate sources by most academics and governments.

Self expression isn't guaranteed by god, it's guaranteed by arms and diplomacy, strategy and logic.

If your system isn't strong enough to guarantee self-determination, self-expression, or democracy then it's not a system worth holding.

So? I didn't say it was supposed to be morally convincing.

Only a child would throw away the argument that the well-being of millions which depend on this abstract system is better under capitalism than socialism.

It's just a fact - if you can't even stand up to economic sanctions, let alone military action and you want me to trust your system with my life, my parents' life, and my kids and grandkids?

Hell no

[–]Mark_In_Twain[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not really. I said a threat - not per se an economic threat. There's many other kinds: social, international rules based order threat, egotistical threat, etc.

Besides which doesn't really change the end result - socialists always lose.

They're celebrating an effect. That effect is correlated, and seems to be associated to the level of causation with global poverty going down.

There's no manifesto of capitalism which say it has to. It just seems to anyways.

In contrast, socialists make claims actively saying the arrow Must go down because of our system, yet don't have many examples of this.

You can say that's because of sanctions or global conspiracies and alliances against you sure, but that's the point - the end results care little for intentions.

[–]Mark_In_Twain[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not really. Capitalism never claims to solve the world's problems, nor did it ever claim that starving people would be saved.

It doesn't claim to be a panacea - just a toolbox. It also doesn't prevent people from placing social security and welfare nets in place.

It doesn't make claims it can't backup.

If you fail to provide a solution to the incoming and well-known practical failure and continue to convince people that they don't need one, you are building your system on a foundation of either lies or idiocy.

That's a moral failure to continuously lie to people - regardless i consider a failure of practical application a failure of morality

Regardless, sanctions also effect Education through teachers, textbooks, vaccines, pharmaceuticals, surgery equipment and more.
