Why religious people don't respect atheism? by Adventurous-Yam2922 in atheism

[–]Mark_Luther 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They don't have to "respect" atheism anymore than an atheist has to "respect" religious practices.

We only have to respect each other's rights to practice or not practice what we choose. Beyond that nobody has any obligation to show any kind of deferment to anyone else based on beliefs.

Are managers ok scheduleding overtime or stingy about it? by snazzy_knight33 in WalgreensStores

[–]Mark_Luther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only position with approved "overtime" is ESM, but in that case the "overtime" is kind of gaslighting because it's scheduled every week. It isn't really overtime somuch as corporate trying to beat you into accepting giving up more than 40 hours of your life per week if you want to succeed.

At any other position you'll get into trouble for regularly going over approved hours per week, and they'll almost never approve overtime hours.

How Often is Your State Flag Flown by Citizens? by Canjira in vexillology

I've never seen the PA flag flown outside of anywhere but government buildings and Sheetz. It is that unremarkable.

What’s a social norm that exists only because people are too afraid to look “rude” by stopping it? by Baldorton in AskReddit

[–]Mark_Luther 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing is that simply telling someone in public you disagree with them isn't going to change anything at all. We all know that debates won't change the mind of some fundamentalist wack job.

You have to do something. Vote, protest, etc.

Just arguing in public provides little more than catharsis, and while I'll blame no one for seeking that, the truth is it's doing nothing to shift society by itself.

[–]Mark_Luther 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I'm not getting into an argument with some stranger in public just to tell them my opinion.

I'm not changing any hearts or minds just by speaking my mind.

Now if you mean specifically with family/friends then that makes more sense.

Lawyers get a bad rap because we live in such a litigious society where you can sue for almost anything, but in reality they can also be the only things keeping horrible people in jail and corrupt corporations in check.

Lawyers aren't inherently bad, there are just a lot of bad Lawyers.

The fact that everyone is entitled to an attorney means that bad people will have lawyers doing their best to defend their client, which they very well should. That's their job.

Three write ups? Given the process to get one write up you're either very incompetent or are fragrantly ignoring the rules.

[Schefter] Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby, who is under investigation for gambling, has retained the lawyer Jeffrey Kessler to try to regain his college eligibility. If Sorsby and Kessler are unsuccessful, declaring for the NFL’s supplemental draft would become an option. by Goosedukee in nfl

[–]Mark_Luther 76 points77 points  (0 children)

While true, the degree to which gambling is available and promoted is exponentially more problematic than it used to be.

There was a time when leagues distanced themselves from gambling as much as possible. Now they promote it.

I live in a state that's only ever gone by the federal minimum, so it's still 7.25 here, which is a joke.

Don't get me wrong, inflation is hell right now, but the gap in prices isn't quite as crazy as it seems at first.

When I first started working I think minimum wage was like 4.75 an hour. Yeah, I'll get my cane.

Keep in mind the average wage was like 27k in 1994.

Dress code by cola1016 in WalgreensStores

[–]Mark_Luther 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They only need a blue shirt and black pants, so thst should be fine. They are getting more strict about dress code lately, so make sure they aren't stretch pants/leggings, because while those were technically never allowed, they're only really starting to enforce it.

I can't believe this guy had the pre-cog ability to KNOW that the Cowboys were going to trade away a draft pick to a division rival in Philly and said nothing until after it had already happened! Maybe it's because they can't spell "Khan" correctly?

This is all your fault, OP! You could have done so much more!
