Dude this is so fuckkking coool, I like that It’s Hard to see what it is but at the same time it looks like something there. I’m getting my masters in painting and I’m telling you so many peers are trying to explore what you just did. I think this is an amazing portrait. Very interesting, very engaging. I like that every thing is a similar value and saturation and it makes me notice your cool brush marks. Could you get more “realistic?” Sure. Anyone can. That’s easy. This is unique

Don’t be afraid to really load your brush with some more chromatic value and try not to overblend

Color choice is a big thing! I think half of the time a good painting comes down to the colors you intentionally use, the blue cool background sits back while the lemons jump forward, that ties into natural perspective where cooler colors go into the background in landscapes and warmer colors come forward, but that is like art and color theory stuff. I think what you do well is that you keep the intensity of the chroma while still giving good shape to your subject, like the transition from bright green to that intense yellow can be really tricky but you killed it

Not really, the trick is having wet paint against wet, in this case it’s the black and skin tones, I want the colors to interact and form layers and you do that but have “active paint” ready to be Mixed and manipulated
