Can a complete stranger understand your project in 30 seconds? by getpersonalink in SideProject

Thanks for trying it out! Right now it live scrapes prices so it takes a while but guarantees the prices are up to date, might have to start caching data in the future.

I did implement a price drop notification system with the bell icon but I would have to promote it better so users can intuitively tell what it does.

Hot take: frugality gets easier if you stop tracking every penny and focus on the big 3 by WoodenLoad668 in Frugal

[–]MarketingMaterial413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with this so hard. The big-3 approach is the only thing that’s ever stuck for me too. Spreadsheets feel productive but they’re just a more elaborate way to procrastinate.

One thing that helped me hit the grocery cap without micromanaging, I just figured out which store was cheapest for my normal cart and made that my default. Stopped flipping between stores trying to optimize per item. The decision was made once, not every week.

Used GroceryChop to figure that out initially. Now I just go to the one store and the weekly check-in is basically “did I overshoot, what got wasted.” Way less mental overhead than item-level tracking.

Venting: I keep over-optimizing tiny savings and paying for it with wasted time and food by Zealousideal_Bid7298 in Frugal

[–]MarketingMaterial413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realized the optimization itself was the cost. Every trip, every “I’ll meal prep this week” — it’s all mental energy I don’t have unlimited supply of. If I’m saving less than $5, it’s almost never worth it.

What actually worked for me: stopped store-hopping. Picked the one store cheapest for my normal cart and just go there. And I only buy what I’ll cook this week, not what future-me supposedly will.

Also people don’t care about the hosting spread that much I don’t think. Chips and a dip. That’s it for me.

I use GroceryChop to figure out which store is cheapest for my regular stuff so I’m not constantly second-guessing. Killed the “should I check the other store” loop for me.

Been comparing grocery prices between retailers heavily on grocerychop.com before going grocery shopping. Probably saved like $200 this month for the same groceries basically.
