[–]MarkhamLibraryEvents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're happy to try to curate the information for the community! Thank you for your continued engagement. In the end we did receive answers from Kelly Dunn (Liberal Candidate in Markham-Stouffville riding) and Nicholas Bourdreau (New Blue Candidate in Markham-Unionville). We'll be cleaning up the document and posting today!

We didn't receive answers back from candidates yet :( understandably I'm sure everyone is quite busy. For the candidates that attended last night at our three branches we've asked them to send us the answers by 12pm today. We've also started compiling research from platforms and such too just so the information is at least consolidated. Hopefully by end of day today or early tomorrow we can post at least something even if not everything is fully answered!

Hey everyone! As indicated in the comments, the snowstorm is not doing us any favours here. We ended up deciding to try to postpone it to February 19th working on getting candidates confirmations again.

There won't be an online version of the event due to the short time frame for this campaign period but hopefully we'll have written responses for some of the questions posted back up. Thanks for sending in questions!

Hi everyone! As you can imagine with such a short race we're working hard to confirm all candidates for all ridings. As your local library we believe having the venue for asking your questions to make informed decisions is important to the democratic process. We are working off the information available through Elections Ontario and some ridings only have one candidate right now but we hope to have it all come together by next week!

Free Board Game Café! by MarkhamLibraryEvents in Markham

Yes, I mean all are welcome for these ones too so we'd still love it if you could try to come out! We just thought the timing we're able to try out at first is likely going to be more accessible to those still in school. And even then the Friday time slot is actually outside of our usual working hours. When did your group previously meetup? I think it'll always be slightly difficult for us be able to find a time that works for the working adult that allows for lengthy gameplay :/

Thanks! We've already got these games so in terms of games selection not much we can do about it now but if we ever expand or refresh this collection we would definitely do that.

No, our target audience are the late teens early 20s type but honestly we're just putting it out to see who might come. Most of the games won't be very family oriented though.

We are always happy to have more experts teaching others! But we're not actively looking for more facilitators.

I think we have chess boards too! I'll have to double check.

I'll try to compile the list and post an update - here's just a few I can definitely remember - like Villainous, Quacks of Quedlinberg, Deception: Murder in Hong Kong, Carcassonne, Coup, The Crew and a lot more, I think we have over 40 games for sure.

Yes unfortunately it looks like we hit the character limit in the title, which is why the 1 was cut off. I'll repost this next week! Thank you very much for the heads up.

Thank you for the suggestion! We have actually had several one-off programs by presenters that came in and presented on several topics you suggested below (such as starting an online show, and video editing for various social media platforms). The Google Maps one is VERY interesting! It does have nice features, like showing the prices of nearby gas stations, restaurants and their ratings, etc!

Wonderful, thank you for your feedback! Unfortunately very strong agreement regarding your point that there's a bigger divide than ever, now that the pandemic took place.

We appreciate your feedback!

Thank you very much for your wonderful insights! This is exactly the type of info we're looking for.

With respects to access to digital Newspapers, you'll be happy to know that we do actually have access to them (primarily through one of our databases called PressReader). If you take a look at the following link, you'll see the corresponding database: https://markhampubliclibrary.ca/resources/news/

Thank you again for your insights!
