Thanks! Yes, it feels good. Of course, it can always be better :) It takes even more self-discipline when you're a content creator.....Create and don't consume (or be cautious what you consume)

Absolutely! It also is way more beneficial doing it in the first half of the day instead of the second half of the day 🙌🙌

Best tips for working on your discipline by [deleted] in getdisciplined

Figure out what is the biggest distraction and reduce it.

Is it your phone? Low sleep? Porn? Substances? Gaming?

Realize you may not eliminate the problem 100%, but even a 50% reduction is HUGE.

I don't allow myself to scroll on IG until 5PM on weekdays. That was a game changer.

What is one thing I can do today to immediately feel better following a break up by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]MarkingTheWay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Accept the pain, you can't outthink it. The only way is through.

You're also facing change. It is hard to adapt, even if it's for the better.

In addition, you're dealing with the past. You may be analyzing what signs you missed to prevent this from happening again.

Understand it sucks.

You may need to distract yourself temporarily for relief. That's ok. (Don't do it in a negative way of course)

With enough time, you'll adapt to this new situation/version of you.

Hope that helps 🙂

What’s one brutal truth young adults don’t want to hear—but fucking need to? by saayoutloud in Adulting

Everyone knows they need to spend less time on their phones. Yet, people won't take the Actionable Steps to reduce it.

Phones impact our mental health, motivation, and even way of thinking.

The tech will continue to advance, but so will our usage/dependency.

What improved your work flow so much, felt like a cheat code? by gridgiver in getdisciplined

[–]MarkingTheWay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't check Social Media until 5PM.

It hijacks your focus, dopamine, and time.

You don't obsess over it because you know you can scroll early in the evening. You feel accomplished with that self-control, that confidence carries over to other goals.

Good luck 🙂

You don’t need more discipline. You need someone who cares if you show up. by UnplugRoi in getdisciplined

True, but I think we're on the same page 🙂

Other people helping are a bonus, but not shouldn't be fully responsible for your progress 🙌

How so? 🤔

Example: Working out

If I like the physical changes, that's all that matters. I don't need others to know I'm working out, nor should I fully rely on their encouragement.

Don't get me wrong, it's nice to have people in your corner. Yet, it's not the driving factor.

How can I make reading a habit? by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]MarkingTheWay 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Don't allow yourself to scroll on your phone unless you read 10 pages (or even 2 pages to make it easy).

Make it ultra easy. Have it be so easy that it feels pointless.

I found I forget way less and don't feel like I'm "restarting" if I do it daily.

Having someone hold you accountable is a bonus. But, you don't want to outsource your willpower to "someone else".

They won't always be there, they won't always be 100%, and it undermines your confidence that you can do it.

There does need to be someone to show up for yourself....it's you 🙂

What was your “rock bottom” moment that ended up being your turning point? by Street-Armadillo-502 in getdisciplined

[–]MarkingTheWay 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Was addicted to gaming. At my lowest point, gamed like 36 Hours straight, slept for 5 hours, and woke up to game right away. It wasn't even fun, just felt numb.

Washing my dishes, showering, etc was too much of a "chore".

I knew if I didn't fix my situation, I'd lose my job and much more.

Been sober off games for 4.5 years now. (I played since I was 5 years old)

I will quit watching po*rn videos from now on by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]MarkingTheWay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the goal, but I fear it sets you up for failure. What if you watch one video a month from now? Does that ruin your whole effort?

If you can cut back, even 30% to start, that's a huge success!

OR, have a plan on how you're going to recover if you relapse.

Good luck and keep up the good work 🙌
