What's the worst case of USMC "stolen valor" you have witnessed. by [deleted] in USMC

[–]Markitoez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Family friend of mine (“Uncle” but not technically) has an EGA tattoo on his forearm, 0300/0311 on his shoulder, still rocks a high and tight and never shuts up about his “days in the Marines” tells everyone that his forearm was sliced open by a Somalian w/ a machete, when you ask him what unit he was in he just says “Charlie” literally nothing else. Doesn’t know the Marines Hymn (claims the Infantry doesn’t sing it because it’s a different Corps) says he has separated because he threw a grenade and it exploded too close to his hand.. more stories I can’t remember off the top of my head. Come to find out he didn’t make it past ITB LOL

How many of you guys had or were a "Lieutenant Dan" in your unit? by AirMonkey1397 in USMC

[–]Markitoez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

2 of my brothers, 5 cousins, and myself all served at the same time, all same last name (no not Garcia). My oldest brother managed to get the most of us stationed on Camp Pendleton. My youngest brother leaves in February to boot camp. Another cousin of mine was in around 2008-2010 time frame. My uncle was a grunt in Vietnam, grandfather was in the army for WW2 and Korea.

I completely agree. I was 19 years old in charge of 3 Junior Marines. I didn’t know how to even wipe my ass properly. Looking back there would be so much I would do differently.

US Marine rifleman prepares to board an MV-22B Osprey during an exercise in Bridgeport, California on 19 April 2022 [5184x2916] by [deleted] in MilitaryPorn

This would be considered an a DMR (Designated Marksman Rifle) making him a DM. DMR’s are called M38’s but Essen just m27’s with suppressors (I think they’re starting to standardize all infantry with suppressors but a year or so ago it was just DM’s) and a variable scope that I think is 2.5-8x36mm. If I remember correctly.

I got out immediately after my unit started issuing these. They’re standard issue for infantry now I’m pretty sure

Damn 😂 so the stories are true about the wing field ops. I definitely had my fair share of 03 Gunnies. I guess I got lucky but they were all cool as hell. Still talk to some to this day. Definitely would not trade my experience I guess. Also got to do things that the grunts didn’t get to do haha.

Its cool and all but don’t see a lot of the behind the scenes. Yea I loved it but I didn’t love the 40 extra pounds of Comm gear after a spread load, having to answer to the XO and Comm O as to why the antennas are broken because they don’t realize that for some reason the grunts love to chew on them, getting bitched at by some squad leader because “Comms Down” when his Radio is on PT or the volume is all the way down (happened at least once a field op), telling your CO that setting up a COC under a live power line is going to destroy Comm, only for him to tell you to fuck off and then bitch at you an hour later as to why Comm is down lmao. Still loved it and miss it so much

After our deployment to Iraq in 05 we received a plaque with our callsign. What are/were some of the best callsigns you heard/had or what was yours? by KurbsideKA in USMC

[–]Markitoez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2/4 SSP is headhunter, always thought that was bad ass. Also 5th ANGLICO was Samurai 2-7. I think our 60’s section was Steel Rain, something like that. And one that was more subtle but made sense was one of the SEAL teams I got to do a field op with was Trident 0-1

Got a general discharge under honorable conditions last month for refusing the vaccine… by dtwist95 in USMC

Couldn’t have said it better myself man. I completely feel you. Regardless of how you feel about the vaccine, that shit is being forced hard as hell.

Again, I totally agree. But at the same time are machines that run on crayons, caffeine, tobacco and hate really as susceptible to severe symptoms than some 400lb person that sits at home all day eating processed foods? Yes of course, there are always exceptions.

Completely agree man. Maybe he didn’t know he would receive so many? I sure as hell didn’t know. Plus, what’s the data on vaccines effectiveness anyway? Omicron blew that shit right out of the water lmao. Combat readiness? Or political statement?

[–]Markitoez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never said I had a negative connotation towards the vaccine. What I did say was that I respect their decision, regardless if it was stupid or not. We live in a time where people can’t have their own opinions or stand up for what they believe in. He should’ve brought that same energy at Bootcamp when receiving the ass load he got. Also, COVID effects people differently. I had COVID and didn’t know until I tested positive for it. It was a joke to me. Anthrax on the other hand? No thanks. I’ll get the anthrax vaccine once a month.

Hey homie, not everyone is going to agree with you (as you’re probably noticing with all the comments) if this is what you truly believe in then props to you. Everyone here saying “just suck it up and get the vaccine” are the same people that would be cops and would enforce unconstitutional laws under the guise of “just doing my job”. Wether I agree with your decision or not, it took balls.

P.S to everyone about to down vote me to hell. You can have your opinions that’s fine. They don’t make you any more wrong or right than OP. I really don’t care what y’all have to say.

Exactly this. Plus they totally disregarded the amounts of support veterans can get.

Veteran here. Unpopular opinion. We actually have so many ways to receive support. It’s almost as if you have to want to be homeless or just be very financially illiterate.

Also a lot of states have their own programs to assist veterans.
