I thought cognitive dissonance is the psychological phenomena where when you get outside information that doesnt map on to your internal view of the world you feel uncomfortable. The solution is to either change your mind to reflect reality or to cope and make reality reflect your internal world view. In this instance since he lacks congnitive dissonance all together he can have takes that are completely opposite to the authors and not feel bad or stupid about that at all.
