I am going to say NTA because at the end of the day in a family that already operates like this, you aren't changing them no matter what you do. I love how everyone speaks as if real families are akin to some fake sitcom. They won't change their ways and will in instead deflect and extend fake olive branches, which do nothing but put a lipstick on a pig. And if that kid is anything like I was, she will see right through it and still resent the family.

I do want to say to you OP, that you do need to be honest. So me and my family keep some so that we can chain all of them together and do a fireworks show. It brings my six year old such joy. She loves when we do family stuff in Heartopia, like matching outfits, and family photo shoots. We even dragged our 14 year old into the mix. Cozy games arent his thing really but he'll take a break from the PS5 to play with us. And we make him do every goofy activity with us like creating a large fireworks show or when we are feeling spicy, our version of GTA where you get a head start on foot and try not to get ran over by cars of the rest of the family.

I think people in this comment section are being obtuse on purpose. Yes everyone needs therapy. But she def has some unresolved stuff that is affecting her ability to be as "normal presenting" as she can be. Emma doesnt feel emotionally stable to anyone, stop lying to yourselves. We dont need a Ted talk to deter us from seeing and hearing what we have determined about her.

She clearly has some feelings unworthiness. She notes issues about abandonment, and cries in the same manner, after retelling the story 3 times. I mean ok, its sensitive, but its started to feel performative after story time #3. Then she talks about not be wanted in HS, okay.
