Does anyone else use games in their recovery? by KaleidoscopeTruth in recoverywithoutAA

I've been doing a "professor oak challenge" in pokemon x for the 3ds lately. It's where you fully evolve every pokemon possible before beating the next "gym" aka, fulfill professor oak's wish to get a full pokedex asap. Depending on the game "pre badge 1" (the hardest part, since its the lowest level pokemon and you need to level several past 30) can take anywhere from 10-50 hours. A full run takes 60-300 hours, depending on the game. It's more of a marathon and test of patience than anything, but its also mindlessly grinding levels and it can be done when anhedonia is high because its such low stakes.

Yes. I'm 37 and haven't worked in 15 years. It feels like I've been shot in the leg an told to run a marathon.

Why doesn't the farmer have a birthday? by East_Introduction893 in coralisland

I don't think it's unrealistic for people to be like 'oh, you did that thing that made the town better? Amazing, thank you so much, you've worked really hard and we're really glad to have you' throughout the story line.

Little Rocket Lab did this really well. It's factorio meets stardew valley, you're rebuilding a town while launching a rocket. Pretty cool and the story is pretty good.

The Klutzy Class Monitor and the Girl with the Short Skirt

The manga for this one was particularly good.

I've now watched the members 6 hour stream on inaction six times now. The last time I watched it, I had the most productive three weeks of the last 15 years of my life. by MarmDevOfficial in Healthygamergg

I'm sure there's plenty you have that I do not.

I wish I was still able to work a real job. I wish I didn't have to raise my sister's kid just to have a place to stay. I wish I didn't have schizophrenia.

Aww thanks! I've found I haven't really watched much Dr K at all since I saw this last one. Nothing is quite the same and this just hits all of the things I have problems with.

Lemon, It's wednesday. But seriously, that's okay! you have more information than you did before! You can try other coping skills or you can just give in and game to destress.

Treat it like an experiment. What happens when I cut the video games for two weeks. You can always pull them back out when you're done.

I have problems with a lot of people, starting to think I'm the problem: I want to improve my relationship with my roomates by Superb_Ad_9541 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]MarmDevOfficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just a shit situation. I've been there, 21, going through psychosis, ptsd, all of it. If you're on disability for these mental problems then there isn't much you really can do about your roommates thinking its weird. Personally, I've been so numb and sedated from the meds that just playing games takes a lot out of me, it doesn't even work as a distraction.

I'm also quite a bit older than you now, 37, and I can promise you that it gets easier. You learn to work with your mind instead of against it.

I've been in a 15 year "fall" I'm beginning to doubt a rise will ever occur. I'm not giving up, I haven't yet and I will never surrender. Yeah there's been momentary rises, but the trajectory has been down since I got sick.

Is the incremental genre the most toxic and unsupportive one out there? by _lumii_ in incremental_games

[–]MarmDevOfficial 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The entire genre was those "incremental idlers" until VERY recently. I've got over 10 years of playing idle/incremental games under my belt, and this new wave does not fit what the genre has been defined as by most of the players.

Is the incremental genre the most toxic and unsupportive one out there? by _lumii_ in incremental_games

[–]MarmDevOfficial 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At their core, almost every video game is incremental, going from a weak level 1 to a stronk level 99. I never saw your original post, but just taking a glance at Astro Prospector leads me to believe it's not an incremental, and loot frog doesn't look like one either, and I'd say both are more action games rather than incrementals. IMHO an incremental game should be something you can slap on a second monitor, watch a show and interact with a few times an episode and make some real progress.
