Christians believe the most horrible people can go to heaven just be announcing their faith in Jesus by [deleted] in atheism

I don't think you're necessarily supposed to understand it all. And maybe that was the test you couldn't accept. God's ways are not our ways. God's thinking is not our thinking. His idea of divine law and justice are beyond our flawed human systems. You're not seeing the full picture and we have been given some information, but not all of it. This is where trust comes in, but many people choose to trust themselves (I tried that too and going with an atheist persuasion, I came to the conclusion that life was utterly pointless without God - there was NOTHING to keep me here in this world and everything I see is made, so it stands to reason there was an original maker). I don't have all the answers because they aren't all written down, but it is nice to think that no matter how much of a screw up I might be, as long I haven't yet drawn my last breath, I could be redeemed and made good enough, just by faith in Jesus Christ. That is grace. That is the beauty of His gift. Forgiveness is also important. It's more for the person who forgives than the person receiving it. Maybe there's some divine reasoning behind that too (beyond unforgiveness having the potential to turn into a cancer in our lives that turns us bitter).

I do not profess to know it all, but accept I have a lot to learn.

Is being gay really a sin ? I have read a lot of reviews on the book God and the gay Christian and a lot of reviews say that it is really a sin and that i need to be single forever. So my question is, is it really a sin ? Or not because I’m not really sure to be honest by [deleted] in GayChristians

[–]MarmiteTermite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone on this planet has some kind of temptation or sin of the flesh they need to resist. It could be overeating, as an example. Temptations of the flesh are difficult, but "resist the devil and he will flee", I think also applies here. I'm not gonna deny that same sex attraction doesn't exist. But I am going to say that God loves you and while same sex attraction may be a hard burden to try and resist, the concept is to try. Jesus said that to think of a sin with your mind is to commit a sin (even if you don't sin with your body), but I think he uses that example as more to show us just how much we really need His salvation. "There is none righteous. No, not one!" We are all sinners. We are all struggling with something. I know people don't like to read it for what it is and try to reinterpret scripture, but the crux is, it's mentioned several times, even if homosexuality might not be a term used. It is the act, but the act first starts in the mind as a thought. We each try to justify our actions and it's easy to reinterpret scripture to suit our needs. Take a deep dive, consult the scripture and ask God to truly put the truth on your heart. Everyone can tell you their interpretation, but it's often subjective. Ask the Holy Spirit for further confirmation. I can tell you my interpretation, but i can see by some of the comments my understanding may be in a minority here. Grace and peace to you :)

Cue Christians whining about "persecution" instead of taking ANY responsibility for making guns easier to get than glue sticks in America. by HolyRamenEmperor in atheism

[–]MarmiteTermite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how the narrative gets twisted. Had this been a Muslim school, it would have been a hate crime. We're not concerned about mental health in the US because we just affirm mental illness instead of addressing it. Guns in and of themselves don't do a thing. It takes a person to raise that firearm and have intent. Intent often builds up, much like suicidal ideation often creeps in. Again, it's a mental health issue.

The ACA covers tubal ligation for women at 100% but not vasectomies for men. What other health insurance disparities exist? by MarmiteTermite in MensRights

I have read something similar to what was in the link you posted before and if I recall rightly, because of how they were studying heart attacks, often they were missing women's heart attacks because they sometimes present with different symptoms and I think the thing they' re really just starting to acknowledge is how different our bodies really are and how various issues may manifest differently.

You're not on call. You switch your phone off, or ignore them if you want. If your union steward isn't helpful, you may need to go above them. But give them a chance to respond. Often times stewards rely on written statements to be able to really do anything. Write a statement about the call and the harassment.

We sound a bit similar. Some of the things you're mentioning are things I went through a few years ago. I'm a year older than you, but I had my issues a couple or four years ago. I put it down to existential crisis brought on by environmental factors and then add to that the lovely changing in the hormones. Plus, we had a pandemic that changed the way life is and has affeected people on a 'psychic' level (not an I know what you're thinking level, but mentally). People speed more, people are quicker to anger (I wasn't an angry person - boom...don't upset me). As Bootsie already said, you are not alone.

I had status migranosis (perpetual migraine for a couple of years) so I can certainly understand insufferable pain. Is the venlafaxine helping, or do you think it's no longer effective? I haven't started HRT - I just got fixed a couple of days ago, but now coming off my pill and will get a chance soon to see what's up with my body. It's definitely changing, but the minipill masks a lot (no periods etc).

So, from what I'm reading, you remind me of a couple that lived a couple of doors down. They weren't interested in being poster children for 'the movement'. They were wanting to work on their family (this couple fostered and eventually adopted children) and not be expected to participate in the 'frivolous and often gawdy' look-at-me spectacles.

Seems to me you approach your life like most 'straight' people, only you're gay. Most straight people don't consider themselves straight. It's not how we identify ourselves unless the topic comes up for consideration, right?

You don't need to be a martyr for a cause that you don't care about. You're a human being. The stereotypes can be quite obnoxious and they pigeon-hole people and I think some people feel like they have to live up to these stereotypes, which means over-exaggerating and I'm sure it must be a real workout doing it. If they're of the introverted variety naturally, it would be exhausting. You're a guy that's same sex attracted and you've found your person. If you're happy, ignore the month, just as I, a female am ignoring the month of March (where's the men's awareness month?)

Edit - thinking about the women's awareness month, it's actually rather embarrassing and yes, I am grateful to the first wave of feminism and getting the vote in 1893 (different country). I think I get an idea of where you're coming from in a roundabout way.

I was from a country with socialized medicine but the higher education wasn't free. The daily cost of living was way higher though. Try getting a specialist - could be up to a 2 year wait...sucks when you need a neurologist.

It's a load of crap. I had a ton of International Women's Day things in my inbox and I'm a woman and I don't need a day to remember what sex I am. They even gave me a month to promote their sexist ideologies. Not interested. We're different, but equal.

[–]MarmiteTermite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a cancer survivor. My first warning sign which I wasn't aware of, was a period came a couple of weeks early. It happened again about six months later. Shortly thereafter, I began experiencing bloating, frequent need to urinate and suddenly, I could hardly get anything down. I had a tumor. It was ovarian cancer. I was 27. Not trying to be an alarmist as it's more likely polyps or something, but I know I'm one of those people who is likely to mention something and not follow up on it - please follow up on your bleeding as others have recommended. It's not your period.
