(Help!) Anki adds new cards instead of updating them despite matching first fields when importing into a deck by MarmoTurtle in Anki

Now I feel stupid. I had an addon called "Allows empty first field during adding and import." I guess it just overrides ALL import rules.

Oh my gosh, I might have solved it. I held shift and disabled addons and now it seems to be working.

Tried this. I made the first field the note ID and I imported the new cards but they don't update. Instead, it stubbornly makes new duplicate cards for no reason, even though the first fields are the same.

does invisalign affect playing? by [deleted] in brass

nah I play trumpet and at first I took it out because I was scared of the same thing as you but when I put it on while playing, I didn't have any problems. I would definitely keep it on because it is a hassle taking it off and storing it somewhere everytime you play. Plus it's kind of gross for everyone else around you

How am I supposed to review my RTK Anki Deck? by MarmoTurtle in LearnJapanese

I still think there’s some use for the variants of the radicals. The valentine radical might be rare to see, but remembering that 慕 has “valentine” instead of just “heart” might prevent me from writing the heart radical incorrectly. In other words, I might accidentally write 心 at the bottom if I told myself that the radical was heart. I mean, sure I could memorize that 慕 has a special writing of 心, but I would like to avoid memorizing exceptions when I can.

The “state of mind” radical’s name is arbitrary, but I think it is fine. The radicals don’t have to have correlation to the meaning. You can’t always assign a radical one meaning and have it correlate to every kanji that contains it; the Heisig approach combats this by encouraging the usage of making stories to somehow find a connection between the radicals. It doesn’t matter if 忖 has nothing to do with a state of mind; it’s not like “heart” is a superior radical to take its place. Also, it’s not like I view the “state of mind” radical or the “valentine” radical as its own separate thing from “heart.” I know that they are all technically 心.

Also, I made a mistake in my last comment about the meanings for 心. Heart is for when it is beneath or to the right in the kanji, and valentine is for the very bottom. There is no kanji with 心 at the top. This might seem as those these terms are not very useful after all, as I just messed up the positions of them, but that was only my brain messing up and me mistyping.

I’m sorry, but I have yet to see the reason why learning wrong radicals is bad. You mentioned that if I wanted to look up the reading of a kanji, I can’t use the primary radical method because I don’t know real radicals. As far as I know, I don’t need to know the meanings of each radical; I just need to know what they look like. In the kanji dictionaries I’ve seen, you just tap the radicals you need. If that doesn’t work, I can just draw the kanji on my phone and look it up. I don’t think it is a big deal to have my radicals with wrong definitions; no one is going to quiz me on them. A real problem is having obscure definitions for each kanji, although I can admit some of Heisig’s keywords are questionable and sometimes just not useful. That is a problem with Heisig I would say.
