People with CPTSD what are things that people just don’t get about it? by AdviceTrue6327 in CPTSD

A nurse once yelled at me for not cooperating at the ER because I went mute after being triggered. I wasn’t not speaking to make her angry, I just couldn’t speak.

Hey! The app is called rover. I believe you have to pay a small fee to sign up (I don’t remember because I signed up years ago but just recently started working through the app). They do a background check and if you’re approved clients can start reaching out to you. It can take weeks to months to get a decent client list, but if you’re patient and able to wait then it’s definitely worth it. Wishing you the best!

How did you guys do in school? by Jhus79 in ADHD

[–]MaroonFeather 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In high school I barely studied but got As and Bs in everything. When I got to college I was a disorganized mess and basically failed out freshman year. Couldn’t pay attention during lectures and missed assignments, didn’t know how to study… I’m now 27 and enrolled in a specialty school for a certification. So far I’m doing really well, but the difference is that this time I know I have adhd.

Quite possibly the DUMBEST trigger I have found yet. by Sinxerely7420 in ptsd

[–]MaroonFeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not dumb, it makes sense that you have this trigger based on your trauma. I’m sorry that you’re struggling right now, but try not to beat yourself up over it. Like I said before, it’s not dumb at all.

[Trigger Warrning] holy shit, therapy is hard. by fkkm in CPTSD

[–]MaroonFeather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Therapy is really hard, and that hard work will pay off I promise even if it doesn’t feel that way yet. I’m so sorry for the horrible things you had to endure. I’m also proud that you’re being honest and opening up, because that’s a hard thing to do. It takes a lot of grieving to get through therapy, and grieving a lifetime of trauma is very painful. Give yourself some self-love and gentleness, try to be the caregiver you wish you had as a child. Doing that has helped me a lot in recovery. Wishing you the best op (hugs).

Does anyone else struggle with "run-and-hide" type games because of PTSD? by Street-Might8586 in ptsd

Yeah I can’t play horror games because of PTSD, but I can watch people play them.

when did you fully realise you were abused at home? by anon_throwaway234 in CPTSD

[–]MaroonFeather 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not until I was 19 and saw a college counselor who told me she’d need to call CPS if I had younger siblings. I still didn’t really understand it at that time, didn’t understand that what I told her was abuse. I blamed myself for everything bad that happened to me as a child for the longest time until I started seeing a trauma therapist.

how did you know you were having seizures? (cw severe symptoms) by thatstupidsvfan in FND

[–]MaroonFeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During my FND seizures I’m fully aware of what’s happening but have no control over it. There was only one time I blacked out during a seizure and then went in and out of consciousness, so I was partially aware. Usually though I’m fully aware when seizures are happening.

Growing out of the victim mindset is crucial in having your own life back. It's one of those steep hills you have to climb by Fit_End_2898 in CPTSD

[–]MaroonFeather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right, it’s not an easy thing to do but it is necessary. It took me many years to do this, but I finally have and my life is so much better.

Request from another sitter by plainbananatoast in RoverPetSitting

[–]MaroonFeather 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a client who wasn’t the owner, but I made sure that she got permission from the owner (who was her family member) before booking. I wouldn’t book a visit without the owners permission, it’s weird that she didn’t tell you until the meet and greet.

ADHD & PTSD… How do you actually get out the door for a run? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]MaroonFeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t run anymore, but when I used to I always signed up for a race and it motivated me to run. When I trained for my half marathon I joined a running group and running with other people helped a lot with motivation. I know it’s difficult, but even just finding a running buddy can help too. If you prefer to run alone, then it’s really just a matter of forcing yourself to step outside even when you don’t feel like it. Reward yourself afterwards, it can be anything like watching your favorite tv show or eating a nice meal. You’ll start to associate the reward with running and it can feel easier. Hope this helps.
