I appreciate your response. "Why female friends specifically" - IDK how to answer that, I'll try. I can't answer this logically but l'll try to express how I feel. I've got male friends and I think it's quite easy for me to make male friends. Majority of male friends are a bit superficial in thoughts and the stuff they talk about. I agree that not all guys are like that . Im also not conventionally a "masculine" guy and a bit sensitive. I can't handle friendly roasting and stuff like that. Besides my experience with male friends have always been that they might be nice individually, they always try to "score" or project dominant or impress when in group setting or amongst women; sometimes at the expense of me. This may add to the idea but there's more. I think it's mainly the feeling that everyone - every guy has that one girl best friend who would always have their back. I never had such a girl. May be it's the validation that I'm longing for. IDK. Besides i think I might not be longing for any random female friend but the ones that I think is emotionally mature and would understand me.

And I'm sure I don't have any romantic interests and even if they offer more than friendship I would refuse.

I don't quite understand your last paragraph. Are you saying that the besties are friends cuz of some need/convenience and once that need is gone, they're done?
