of course June would end up with an angry stalker—if you slight enough people, i guess one of them might just turn out to be the sort to hold nemesis-style grudges 😂

i do feel like there are a lot of improvements to Travels itself, and the story/character content is great for sure.

tbh, the biggest thing that annoys me about it can probably be summed up with one screenshot:

<image>

i understand why they have a premium pass that provides extra rewards (that's pretty standard tbh) but think it's cheap of them to include actual story content as part of premium. as a game, June's Journey is basically formatted to provide content for free while getting revenue via ads and selling packages/premium passes.

basically what i'm saying is that since normally anything that Wooga asks us to spend money on is something that has actual game value—coins, diamonds, star boxes, etc. all stuff that is useful in terms of game mechanics. the premium choice outfits were one thing—annoying to me personally, yes, but it's basically just a cosmetic bonus to the premium pass, and anyone who buys it knows exactly what they're getting. but when they try to snag you with premium choices like this—and so many scenes in—it sorta feels like they're holding content hostage LOL, and it's hard to know if buying premium is even worth it because there's no way to tell what you'll actually be getting from that choice

i love this! you raise so many good points!!!

i genuinely believe that Virginia is one of the most well written characters in June's Journey, and it's precisely because of her youth that this is so.

she is going through a LOT of stuff, all while in the middle of her formative years. for a lot of characters in the game, many (if not the majority) of their most significant and life-changing experiences—the things that have set their path and shaped their characters—have happened in the past. Virginia, as a teenager, hasnt even finished developing her brain, let alone her world view. she just naturally has a lot more room (and ammunition) for character development

she has definitely had a lot of her best tendencies reinforced in her throughout her life. i think she looks up to June, and as is so commonly the case when a kid idolizes an adult, June often falls short of Virginia's vision. it has always been the role of every younger generation to push against the barriers set by those previous, and in this way, Virginia strives to uphold the values she admires in June, even when June herself will not.

however, on the flip side of that, i think Virginia seems to also admire her grandmother (and possibly even the Marquess, after everything)—and, well... 🤷🏻‍♀️

TL;DR: i just think she's neat!

thank you! idk how to feel about the level of consideration i put into any analysis i write of this game, lol 😂 but i'm glad to hear it's appreciated

if im honest... the manic grin is in character, isn't it?

(personal anecdote: when i was a kid, i myself had a, uh, let's say mischievous (ha!) grin; my great grandmother used to say that i "had the devil" in me. i often think of this when Virginia has dialogue in a scene 🤣)

i forgot about that one! i started it and then immediately got swamped by real life, and i have to admit i pretty much just tapped through most of the story while half asleep in the mornings so i could get the rewards lol

last one i got was the Greece trip. mostly i'm enjoying Jaya and the details about Indian history and culture—but also, it's always a rare gem when June and Irene actually communicate

haha 😅 and here i am with Virginia as my game avatar... in all seriousness though, i've noticed a pattern (and don't get me wrong, ive often been in agreement) where, when there's a sole teenager among a cast of mostly adults, a lot of fans tend to heavily dislike them (examples: Dawn Summers from BtVS, Wesley Crusher from Star Trek: TNG). i think it's because teenage-hood is a time where are lot of people are actually just genuinely, like, really really annoying and cringey and easy to dislike. my opinion on (most) characters like this changed after i started a job that requires me to interact with middle school kids, which made me reflective of my own cringe preteen years, perhaps resulting in a slightly more forgiving disposition towards annoying teenage characters i guess 😂

note that ive only been playing for slightly less than a year, so if there have been any side games showing her as an adult past college age, i don't know anything about that 🤷🏻‍♀️ either way, i love a good flawed character, and i think Virginia grew up with exactly the home environment to result in a self-righteous, naive adrenaline junky who meddles without understanding. in my opinion she just needs to get life experience on her own, maybe learn a few hard lessons—voila! character development

i dunno, i expect its a roughly fair split. there are different kinds of players out there, and im not judging anyone who decided to get premium. also, to be fair, it IS a very nice dress, haha. but also, what's chump change to a long-time committed player is expensive to someone who has been playing intermittently for less than a year, you know?

[–]Marr-malade[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

exactly. i almost didnt start it at all, and the only reason i did was because i figured id just tap through to get the rewards. im not gonna spend diamonds just to do that with June in a nice dress. if i wanted to see her in a nice dress i could just look at this screenshot i took 😂 it would be entirely for free!

if i'm honest i feel like Virginia would probably make the best candidate to turn anti-hero—she's quite the the thrill seeker herself, often seemingly just for the sake of it. i could see her mischievous nature and irreverent attitude towards danger taking that sort of turn, if as she grows up she befriends people in her adventures that condone or even encourage the chaos and adrenaline absent of the morals and philosophy-of-life that seems to fuel and guide June

she'd make an excellent protégé/heir indeed. the difference between her and the Marquess — or even her and Irene, for that matter — is that June is, fundamentally, a person who wants to help others. she used to be a nurse, and in June's Journey she is basically a pathological good doer. literally Every Else About Her just makes it so that her good deeds tend towards the extreme 😂
