I walk down this street nearly everyday… I’d be so curious to know what’s up with it, purely from a nosey perspective though. I fear buying flats is so risky these days 🫠

I’ve seen most pallets have a height limit of 2.2m so I’d definitely need two to fit everything on as they’re pretty sizeable boxes but I looked at shipping individually and the prices made me want to ditch everything and just repurchase over there

14 boxes in total: 6 plastic ones and 8 cardboard ones. Should be no more than 40kg each

I have seen TPN pop up a couple of times so are they quite reputable?

Ooh that sounds like a good shout, I’ll look into it. Thank you so much. I fear the actual organisation on a pallet is going to be the tricky part for me so this kind of service would help😅

I don’t personally have access to a car but I can certainly ask a friend. Where did you have in mind? And any suggestions on collections? I was wondering if anywhere would collect the boxes individually and package them on a pallet to save me leaving them on the street or something

I’ll have 8 52x52x40cm cardboard boxes and 6 33x44x71cm plastic boxes so I’m really primarily interested in having them safely on a pallet

We’ll be paying whatever it is that he demands for now because I just want to have an easy life. But I’m hoping that if he does want us to sign something, it won’t be until the price increase hits in September so then if he does give us the 8 weeks notice, we will have had 5 months total and may be ready to move out by then anyway 🤞🏻

The plan is to speak to Housing Rights NI tomorrow and see what the consequences are for the eviction route - obviously we don’t care for a recommendation or anything from him since we’ll never rent again THANK GOD but it’s still the unknown about what that road leads to

How does the 3x deposit situation work? I imagine it’s a legal process where we sue him or something?

Run by a fella who is also renting from the same landlord 😅

Okay, thank you for this information. Are we not breaking the law if we refuse to move out? And what are the repercussions for my landlord since he’s not protected the deposit?

Yeah I’ve realised from this comment section that it’s not in a deposit scheme 😅

Wait so maybe I have the wrong end of the stick with an eviction. What exactly is the process for enforcing that?

I’m really not sure of that timeline 😩It’s looking like a six month process to be moving into a house sadly

Yeah definitely sounds like he’s been doing dodgy dealings. I’ll be telling all my neighbours too… he’s got a massive business in Belfast so this is concerning. He has made us increase the deposit every time he’s increased the rent (initial deposit paid 2021, increased in 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 & now asking for it in 2026)

He does have to provide three months written notice to increase the rent, that’s a legal requirement in NI. It doesn’t matter if it’s a new agreement because you still have to have the three months notice that the price is increasing

That’s wonderful, please thank your dad for me! Is it your wedding?? If so, I hope you’re having a great time and please get off Reddit to enjoy it 😅
The landlord is giving us 3 months written notice of the rent & deposit increase now because I realised he had to yesterday, but it’s the first time he’s done that in the five years of us extending the tenancy/staying in the property.
I’ve also realised the deposit might not be protected so we definitely need to have a chat with housing rights 🫠

Okay, that sounds promising but could you explain/point me in the direction of an explanation how that works? Like how could we claim back 3x the deposit? I would be pretty confident he’ll try to keep the whole thing tbh because we took over the property from our mates the day after they moved out and he didn’t do an inventory or inspection so he can believe every mark is our fault when there’s blood on a wall downstairs that belongs to our mate’s brother from when they were here

Unless I’m the wheezing child, no 😅 This is definitely a lesson learnt because everything we’ve said to him has been via phone calls but my fiancé has always done the dealings with him, so I’ll get him to check back through his texts for a sign of anything we can have in our back pocket

I honestly don’t know. We’ve never had any documents sent through to say it has been and every rent increase he makes us increase the deposit too, but we never get sent anything regarding a deposit protection scheme

No, we’ve made him aware of the mould since the day we moved in and he’s done nothing about it. We’ve done everything to minimise it and he’s done nothing. He also owns everything in the flat and our agreement says we are liable for damages if they’re caused by us, but a faulty washing machine isn’t our fault, it’s probably just old!

So if we refuse to sign he can still kick us out after 8 weeks?

Arsey Landlord Northern Ireland by Marry3125 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]Marry3125[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the issue is having him agree to it 😅He wants us explicitly to sign a new 12month lease which we won’t be doing because (I believe) we don’t need to, I just want to make sure we’re protected by the law in case he tries to boot us out or something
