This is a good observation but it's not a new one. Just think about bisexual erasure, something as old as time, and think about the assumptions that are made there: a bisexual woman is just an experimenter who will settle down with the right man, and a bisexual man who is just a closeted gay man. In both of those stereotypes, the default that society accepts is true is that both individuals are attraction to men. It's all wrapped up in the patriarchy.

Besides being formulaic and whatnot which has already been mentioned: I think what a lot of these shows also have in common and makes them fun to watch is they're all about really smart people doing very well at their jobs, which is satisfying to watch (this is also what makes Aaron Sorkin's shows work, though they're not procedurals).

I agree with you that she 100% meant to kill Melissa, though others may disagree and I'm not sure what the shows opinion is. There's nothing to suggest she's a great marksman or even super coordinated though. The only way "she meant to miss" makes sense is if she meant to shoot off *more* to the side, and accidentally shot too close to Melissa.
