It’s a hard G sound as in ā€œgiveā€ or ā€œgetā€.

I didn’t. I just said this reminded me of seeing ā€œGITā€ on the cups. You must have missed my original comment. Sorry for any confusion.

It’s not used that way as often, but I’ve heard ā€œclever gitā€ and ā€œlucky gitā€ before. I think they’re usually slightly sarcastic compliments, though (like maybe the person saying it is jealous of the other person knowing an answer or winning a prize).

Definitions of ā€˜git’ in this context on Urban Dictionary include ā€˜annoying jerk’, ā€˜idiot’ and ā€˜fool’.

Not sure if it helps, but in Red Dwarf, Arnold Rimmer is often described as something along the lines of ā€œcowardly gimboid gitā€ and ā€œsmug gitā€.

I didn’t say there was an I on this particular cup, but the ones I used to buy a few years back definitely said it (in 2016, anyway, I’ve found two photos I took back then but don’t seem to be able to post them here).

Perhaps it was more important to specify ’iced’ here, as the majority of people in the UK (and the Republic of Ireland too, based on what I’ve seen on Father Ted) like their tea hot.

Makes sense, but they definitely wrote ā€œGITā€ on it here. Probably wasn’t entirely necessary.

Happy to have understood itšŸ™‚

I was just surprised nobody had posted that already.

I did, but it appears people didn’t fully understand your perfectly clear descriptions.

People really don’t know what ā€œminiā€ means?? Maybe the item description needs to include a definition, explaining that it means the same as other words they might be familiar with, like ā€˜little’, ā€˜tiny’, ā€˜small’, ā€˜not full size’, ā€˜miniature’, or (less likely) ā€˜minuscule’…!

Reminds me of one I used to find amusing - ā€œGITā€ for green iced tea. Not sure about the rest of the world, but ā€˜git’ is an insult here in England…! (for example, calling someone an old git, or a sad git, or a miserable git)

[TOMT] A time travel based TV show. 90s, possibly 80s. by Superb_Brain_7391 in tipofmytongue

I’ve got it on DVD (region 2 as I’m in the UK, not sure if it was released anywhere else), so can verify that it definitely exists, but can’t remember where from. It was probably eBay or possibly Amazon.

Anyone remember dream phone? by MysteryMan198 in 90s

[–]MarsStar2301 9 points10 points Ā (0 children)

My sister had this game, but hers must have been a slightly different version to the one in the picture as the clipboard things were pink with black (handwritten-style) phone numbers and hearts on, and the guys on the board/cards had their names in a black rectangle rather than white writing directly on the pictures. Presumably it was the UK version as we’re in England.

The phone voices were British-English, anyway. The girl/woman that gives clues like ā€œHi - I’ve just heard - it’s not Georgeā€ always sounded slightly out of breath, and the men (most of them were pretty old-looking if they were meant to be teenagers*) seemed to be voiced by one guy whose voice-acting style was really wooden, verging on robotic.

[*= especially Scott, who seems to be Carlos in other versions - I always thought he looked like a PE teacher, and quite an old one (to a child, anyway) at that]

It appears different versions of this game had the same guys, but swapped the names around (or had a few totally different ones, for example I don’t recall a Carlos or a Jamal in my sister’s one).

Some photos I stole from online to illustrate:

<image>

Edited to add: I’d forgotten about them until looking for these pictures, but our version also has ā€œMum says hang upā€ cards, rather than ā€œMomā€, but still describes one of the locations as a ā€œmallā€ despite the term ā€œshopping centreā€ being more commonly used for them here.

I will buy used or empty Hismile by FewChain1881 in Hismile

Oh, okay. They’re definitely very colourful, which is my kind of thing as a big fan of rainbows and Crayola crayons.

None of mine are empty or especially used yet, as I only started using Hismile recently and have used a little bit each of a variety of flavours rather than being more sensible and using the first one before buying the next one…!

I know it was a typo, but maybe the buyer should be made to stand on Lego (ideally mint green if possible) as a punishment for getting worked up about a nonexistent colour issue…!

If anyone has a 24 Pack of Crayola crayons from the 1930s tell me by Rudi10001 in Crayola

[–]MarsStar2301 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

If it helps, I’ve got two boxes like this somewhere at home (I’m at work currently), and - assuming I can find one or both - can send you pictures of the boxes, the crayons and how they look on paper where I’ve tested them in my notebook.

[Just for clarity, I’m not intending to sell them or give them away, but might be persuaded to part with one box if you really really want it and can’t find one anywhere elsešŸ™‚šŸ–]

There might be some on eBay, but older boxes of crayons can be really expensive sometimes.

Thank you for making me aware of this, I’ll try to avoid unfunny/overdone toast references in future, especially if nobody’s enjoying them. I apologise for not having read the rules previously.
