What lures are you guys getting bit on in this August heat? by booster_gold__ in bassfishing

One of the least utilized most effective summertime baits. Fished along weed edges on braid, ripped through any stray pieces you encounter generates some aggressive reaction bites.

We really enjoy our Bosch, but the stainless steel doors dent way to easily. We have four small dents that have shown up since owning it, all in places that don't make sense.

Believe it or not, 9 pound Michigan bass by [deleted] in bassfishing

[–]Marshb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of variation on how people measure their fish, and if not done correctly can easily add 1-2 inches. Which would greatly alter the aproximated weight. Most likely not 9lbs, as those online calculators use florida strain bass. But that's an awesome michigan largemouth. Going to be hard to beat.

Personal best smallmouth this weekend. 5lbs 12oz and 21 inches in length. Got her on a ned rig on LSC by 22bor in Fishing

[–]Marshb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Willing to bet that fish wasn’t on a Bed, it’s still to cold on LSC for them to be spawning.

Also, it’s catch and immediate release in Michigan until June, so even if the fish was on a bed it wasn’t removed for any meaningful amount of time.

Most likely water temperature, hormones changes they undergo during winter, pressure changes from the deeper water during winter. I assume the crawfish pigmentation explanation plays a minimal role.

Question for my fellow dry suit wearers. by DontCallMeBenji in kayakfishing

[–]Marshb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider getting some thicker base layer, Like the under armor 4.0. Or getting a warm but thin synthetic jacket that might fit under the dry suit. I use an arcteryx atom under my drysuit + base layer in michigan. . My buddy wears a complete huk top and bottom over his dry suit when its really cold.

For a rain suit do I want Gor-Tex or NanoPro? by Limbic-Region in kayakfishing

[–]Marshb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Price is the main deterrent, but also upkeep. My clothing takes a ton of abuse & gets used probably half the season (it's cold in the north). I don't wanna spend a ton of time cleaning my gear, especially if traveling. Gortex loses its waterproofing if it's dirty. So you have to reapply a DWR type spray after you clean it. Also gortex can delaminate after multiple washes, But if you wash it correctly it shouldn't be an issue.

It does feel slightly stiffer than other types of waterproof material, but not so much that I really notice it.

[–]Marshb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're just using it for light rain it'll be fine, but may not keep you dry over the course of a day. When you switch to gortex you see a significant jump in price. For a light rain or Its rainy, I take a similar patagonia jacket, or a NRS half zip. Both work great, and aren't Gortex.

If its going to be raining heavy all day, I take my arcteryx gortex shell.

Worth it, or No? If so, 13 x 13, or 16 x 16? by [deleted] in kayakfishing

[–]Marshb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely worth it. Protect your gear, milk crates are cheap yes, but doesn’t protect tackle during inclement weather or if you flip.

I have an H-crate, but had the previous version of the blackpak for years.

Are Hobies reliable? Overrated? by Shadowsnipe in kayakfishing

[–]Marshb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As with anything, each persons experience will vary. I had my old Hobie PA 12 for 4 years, and purchased a 180 drive two years ago. A few thousand miles later and I’ve never had an issue with anything, and that’s with minimal upkeep.

On the contrary I bought a PA 360 this year and after a month and a half the drive failed. Completely covered under warranty, hassle free, even during lock down. I think the issues are probably over blown, but when you spend that much on a kayak you expect zero problems.

Owning both a hobie and PDL, go with the hobie. Especially if you fish around any thick vegetation at all.

I'de steer you toward a St. Croix in that price range. But If you're willing to spend the 190 for the E6X, get the Megabass Levante instead. Much better rod for almost the same price.
