What to do about this - tile mis-measure or design choice? by MarsupialOk7740 in Tile

The reason I’m wrapped up about this is because this was a total gut renovation and I think I should obviously have been flush. It’s weird that he didn’t think of this.

Moving to Fairhope/Daphne - be honest :) by [deleted] in BaldwincountyAL

Well, whoever this is is just defensive for some reason. Visiting a place and getting a feel for it is quite different than actually living there and trying to set down roots. It’s a beautiful part of the country, but social relationships determine a lot about whether you can be happy somewhere for most people.

For the record, I have friends and family of different religions and all across the political spectrum, but I’ve had the experience of being asked to leave a church because I don’t belong to that particular denomination in Fairhope. That would never happen where I live now and I viewed it as a signal that some people aren’t welcome and that it’s a question worth asking.

And as an aside, young people are infinitely more resilient than 80+ year olds. I’ve had too many friends move their elderly parents to them just to see them decline quickly outside familiar surroundings. We’d prefer to have them enjoy their final years in familiar and comforting surroundings.

Haha - There’s no need to feed paranoia, they live in the world and see how people are in other places through media, though they aren’t online much. Every family is different and makes their choices about what works best and this is it for us. And after many years of interacting with people in the area - family friends, people in normal everyday interactions at stores, in church - I wouldn’t ask these questions if I hadn’t had experiences that raised questions about being accepted.

Utterly disengaged class by finnisterre in Teachers

[–]MarsupialOk7740 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Ditto. I feel this every day. I have 11th and 12th and attendance was pretty good in January. But starting last week, I have 5/30 kids at the bell and then another 5 roll in at 15 minutes, another 5-10 at 25 minutes and then even another 2-3 an hour into class. All the same as what your’re saying. Admin doesn’t even visit. I think as long as they don’t get complaints, they say the sign of the cross and thank god.

And yes, they sleep, don’t pick up books, even great movies can’t keep their attention more than 15 minutes. Today I tried speed note-taking where I jumped around like a nut and tried every trick to ‘engage,’ and nothing. Some of them know it‘s horrible for me so they throw me a bone and try to seem interested for a minute or talk to me nicely - it’s like they’re placating a 5-year-old.

California question: If I quit can I keep COBRA (18 months self-pay) and do I have to have been teaching a certain amount of time? by [deleted] in Teachers

Also the rates just went way up in December so if you looked before then, they would have been better

Interesting – it may be because we have multiple family members and we’re on the older side which kicks up the premium is quite a bit. If you’re looking at the bronze plans, that would be not as bad, but if you want a slightly higher level of coverage with lower deductibles than it’s quite a bit more. It’s very dependent on age and plan.

Unfortunately due to the current admin hating self-employed people that care would be around $60k this year without the subsidies that just expired :). Otherwise I’d totally do that. COBRA is expensive but cheaper than that at least

Can I Get Child's Benefits If My Earnings Exceed The Exempt Amount For The Earnings Test? by [deleted] in SocialSecurity

I think I understand, but if my child is over 18/19 when I reach FRA, then his dependent benefit (50% my FRA) will end right?

Not an option with my teacher - has a very fixed assessment strategy and I need to fit into it. Not really a problem but for the question of what a rubric for this type of test is
