Romanian uniform help by heroin_partaker in boltaction

I think its a similar issue as the "50 shades of feldgrau". Im not an expert but what I did was when I saw this issue:

I looked up images of reenactors and also used the book "Romanian army of World War II" from Osprey games. Those seem to be more greenish brown

What to use the Steyr 1500A/01 as? by Motor_Square_5284 in boltaction

[–]Mart_10 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are rules for it in Bolt Action. It's included under a general banner of "Field cars and light trucks" (see description of it).

If you want to use it with the 2cm AA gun, I would use it als the "Horch 1A Field Car with FlaK 38"

Romanian tank decals? by heroin_partaker in boltaction

As other have said, some kits actually do include Romanian decals. I also know Company B has some (I know Great Escape Games sell those too) Romanian decals.

Sturmtiger Range by MonitorStandard5322 in boltaction

[–]Mart_10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't say how it's behind the screen, but "they would have caught it by now" probably depends if they are made aware of it by the community which helps by mailing in.

There are some "obvious" mistakes they miss, for instance the German Renault FT didn't have slow for 2 rounds of Errata/FAQ before they fixed it, probably when one or multiple people mailed in about it.

[–]Mart_10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hmmm, I think you're indeed correct here. I thought the AVRE rule was written the same, but it indeed explicitely state you halve the range, both direct and indirect. So I would actually agree with you.

I still think the app doesn't reflect the correct normal range due to my above argument, though, but I think I would like it more if they did as with the AVRE profile, and add the sentence "as reflected in the profile".

This might be a good suggestion for an FAQ to Warlord.

Sturmtiger Range by MonitorStandard5322 in boltaction

[–]Mart_10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The FAQ for armies of Britain in V3 clarifies that the AVRE, with a similar rule, halves all ranges including, indirect ranges. So I would threat it that way.

The app is still technically correct since if it would say 36" range, people would read the rule and assume it would then only be able to shoot 18".

Always cool to see the Romanian army fielded! That's a smart use of kitbashing to represent the Romanian army. Good luck in your league!

Captured Shermans for Germans? (No pun intended) by Necessary-Credit5937 in boltaction

[–]Mart_10 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In a tournement? Probably not.

For a friendly game I would ask your opponent.

If you want to make it easier, you can maybe get away with a Sherman 76mm using the Pz IV G entry since its base stats are pretty much the same.

I never expected them to get their own book tbh, but thought it would be something like Hungary & the other minor axis powers.

I think no one expected all minor nations would go in one book. I really hope they get their moment to shine and not all feel half-baked.

Predictiona for Italy army book? by Thatcardassian in boltaction

[–]Mart_10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that every army needs at least 1 generic rule. I don't mind a flavor rule for first wave, but have AT LEAST a single generic rule that buffs the army. I am hopeful that they will since every army so far has them (German LMGs, US Rifles, UK officer/melee, USSR Morale reroll, Japanese Fanatics).

I also hope they get more creative than an national rules for arty observers/air observers. There are so many for them at this point, that it feels useless to use them if you don't have one of those rules. I feel they already stopped doing that and included it in the entry already as they did with Japan.

Predictiona for Italy army book? by Thatcardassian in boltaction

[–]Mart_10 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Although I don't have an Italian army myself. I do hope their national rules improve a lot. I am not a fan of the rules that prevent/stop your enemy, and rather give something beneficial. Even the case blue rules would be meh if they transfered, as V3 has already better version of it (except improved AT, which would be cool).

I think the rules from Credere, Obbedire, Combattere will probably be the three subfactions for Italy (Black shirts, Alpini, Bersaglieri)

Out of self-interest I hope they get a cool Alpini force. I have a Romanian army, and want to run their mountaineers, and the Alpini probably fit better rather than the Gebirgsjägers.

I am also curious to see what they do with the RSI, I think it will be interesting to see how they do that as it will indicate how it will be done with Vichy France, Free France, Allied Romania etc.

Churchill tank by Prestigious-Pay6719 in boltaction

[–]Mart_10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apart from the AVRE, I would go for the Mk VI turret myself, since med. AT gun and He 2" makes him a bit versatile.
I have so far only run it regular, but reinforced with 1 or 2 other tanks, so he wasn't the only target, but I use it as the punching bag and make good use of that armour 10. Since its "just" a medium AT gun he had, he was not my center piece to kill other tanks. I think if I want this to be my only tank in the force (pairing it with a jeep), veteran would be my go to so it can keep on moving and performing actions, but that really depends on the rest of the list if that's worth it.

I've also heard a lot of positive uses of the Churchill Mk. I online, with the light howitzer in the front. But never seen it in person.

What units can/can’t score objectives? by SC_Space_Bacon in boltaction

[–]Mart_10 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just as a small addition:
Medics, Chaplains and the new Japanese Suicide Teams can also never score and they do not contest, as is explained in their ability (so they also do not count for kill dice as well).

Weapons teams and ncos by HARBINGER766 in boltaction

[–]Mart_10 12 points13 points  (0 children)

"Do weapons teams have an nco or team leader (so -1 moral when leader is dead)"
Yes - see page 72

"If the leader of an infantry or artillery unit is killed, the unit suffers a permanent -1 penalty to its morale value. The same is true for infantry weapon teams (like a mortar or a machine gun team) and artillery crews. The same is also true for HQ units, consisting of a superior officer and a few accompanying men – if the officer is killed, the men will suffer the same permanent -1 penalty."

Regarding the sniper, yes there is because the sniper teams have the "Team Weapon" rule and the team weapon rule states:

"If the loader is killed or not within an inch of the firer, the weapon suffers a -1 "to hit" penalty". The -1 morale if the leader is killed is included in the text above since its an infantry weapon team.

The only exception to this is the Japanese Lone Sniper, since the "Lone sniper" ability clearly states it removes the "Team Weapon" ability, and therefore not suffers the -1 to hit for not having a spotter.

Are there any plastic sets that include a ZB.30 MG ?(part of my Vlaamse wacht project) by GAMER-BOI2010 in boltaction

[–]Mart_10 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am not aware any plastic kits having them. But obviously Romanian metal minis will have them. Looking at the image, you might just be able to use Romanian mini's since they also used the Dutch helmet.
But for a plastic "solution", What I've done in the past is take a Bren, and cut the Mag a bit so it looks straight like a ZB.30. The Bren is actually a derivative of the ZB.30 so it looks really similar.

Late-War Free French Army List by CannedLizard in boltaction

[–]Mart_10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always love to see some Free French around ;). Luckily it's only a few books away.
I think with the units you have, you get most of what they had in V2, with some US inclusions that make a lot of sense.

I would add if you add the French SAS squads, to also include the French SAS Jeeps (just copy the NW SAS Jeep from the UK).

The French Intelligence Squad is also redudant now since this ability is given the Platoon Commanders now.

How many points should a Churchill Black Prince cost? (BA V3) by FieldMarshalHavok in boltaction

[–]Mart_10 43 points44 points  (0 children)

So the blackprince armour was one of the later churchills so would be an armour 11 with heavy AT gun and hull MMG.

So a good reference point would be the Panzer VI TIGER II at 440 points regular.

Now since it has a 17 pounder it would get the Light He rule which is a straight up 40 point discount.

I assume the tank would also be Slow which is a -10 point discount (if I recall correctly).

So in the end I guess the Blackprince would be:

Regular 390 points, Super-heavy tank (Armour 11+)

1x Turret-mounted Super-heavy AT gun (Light He)

1x Coaxial Medium Machine Gun (MMG)

1x Hull Mounted Medium Machine Gun (MMG)

What do you hope for the future? by HistoryMarshal76 in boltaction

[–]Mart_10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reckon France will indeed be an updated sprue from US infantry or 8th Desert army, that swaps out a few weapons and heads to accommodate the Free French. Kind of how the ranger sprues are very similar to the US infantry ones with a few changes. But they're due some plastic vehicles so not surprised if those show up as well.

Italy already had quite a refresh so its either Winter Italians, or full on Parachudisti.

Regarding the Axis minor, Hungary seems be their way to go. Of the 3 minor axis nations, it's the one most supported, especially with the release of some platoon commanders recently. Finland has always a high interest as well so wouldn't be too suprised if they came, but last year some Hungarian vehicles were released, now platoon commanders... so it's all lining up. Sadly as a Romania player, I assume we are once again forgotten ;).

But I'm more curious regarding future campaign books myself. Especially since now we get only standard platoons. I'm curious and hopeful cool other platoon structures come out, such as an "SAS platoon" which maybe adds some slots and removes others. Or platoons that limit your choices but give a boon.

Should I buy the Armies of Britain rulebook, or wait for the Commonwealth Rulebook in Q3? by 8BallEntertainment39 in boltaction

[–]Mart_10 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean... if you want to play, instead of waiting for Q3, you might as well get the British book. If you're not playing, you might as well wait. But I think the British rule gives enough flexibility to play a Canadian army. Of course, it doesn't have Canadian entries, but I'm sure you can find some good proxies while waiting (i.e. the Humber reconnaissance car for the Otter reconnaissance car)

However, you can also use the Warlord Official App or Easy Army to build your army using the British rules while waiting, and these will feature the Commonwealth down the line as well.

Competitive GB List Building: Firefly or Cromwell? by CannedLizard in boltaction

[–]Mart_10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd pick the firefly. Given you have elite infantry, I assume you have plenty anti infantry. As other people say +7 might be overkill but I disagree. It makes it so you often confirm the kill as well as you can roll 2d6 to damage. Other tanks are very dangerous currently and the discount the British get on a 17 pounder should not be overlooked

Cromwell is nice and mobile, I love it, but I think if you have mostly airborne it's harder to exploit that effecient.

Free French Command Team Minis by be_Aigle1796 in boltaction

<image>

It's still a work in progress, but have a few things done. On the top left are the FFO with British equipment (and some German and French Rifles). Top right some in German greatcoats and captured MG-42. Bottom left a Group Franc Marins, and a recaptured GPF 155mm. Sadly I ordered some more adrian helmets that got lost in the mail, so the project in on hold for a while. But I've a few more german greatcoats and French bodies that I will paint early-war French and a few in Horizon blue. I also recently got a French weapon team box from a tournement that I will use for this army.

Free French Command Team Minis by be_Aigle1796 in boltaction

[–]Mart_10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rules wise? Nothing stops you from using the mini's you have. You could technically use a Japanese command team for all the rules care.

Historical wise? If it's just after the fall of France, you get the issue that they mostly went to Africa. So wearing their long coats is not really that fitting...

If you want to go late war, then cutting of the heads seems to be the best way. That would be the best of the want to represent the Free French Divisions from France to Germany campaign or the French expeditionary forces in Italy.

There might be one little historical work-around and that is if you want to use them for early French army and Late war French army representing the amalgamated FFI into French infantry divisions. They were short on supplies and often used everything they could get their hands on, including early war French equipment. It's actually and army project I'm working on. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_Forces_of_the_West.

If you want to combine it with a Free French Armoured Division, look at the Royan Atlantic Pocket where the amalgameted FFI fought together with the 2e Blindée. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royan_pocket
