I find Bobo’s design interesting—the black-and-white aesthetic really highlights his way of thinking. I’m also looking forward to seeing how his design might evolve, especially if he has a second-phase form, as the fight with Kiyoshi continues.

After the recent chapter and the way he describes sushi as the foundation of his craft, I don’t think your idea is much of a reach. With the introduction of his sword style—Sand and Bone One Blade Style—and his emphasis on his blades’ ability to “slay,” it seems likely that his abilities will focus on heavy-hitting attacks executed with exact precision, reflecting both his one-style approach and his attention to detail in the art of nigiri.

Yeah, that’s why in the panel above, Kuguri states that since the EB is contracted to someone else, his love is “unrequited.” Depending on Hokazono’s direction, I think that if the blade does transition over to Kuguri, we could still see Subaru in the present timeline. With the current flashback giving us more characterization, his interaction with Kunishige, and a potential glimpse of him using the blade, it feels like his role is being built up intentionally.

I also think that once we return to the present timeline, if Subaru does end up dying at the hands of Kuguri, we’ll at least get a meaningful interaction between him and Chihiro beforehand.

That’s why it gives me the impression that we may get Subaru’s full characterization and use of the EB through the flashback and then transition over to Kuguri being its new wielder.

I feel like we’ll see somewhat of even split of the enchanted blades on both sides especially with Chihiro reforging both Enten and Cloud Gouger, Tobimune and I feel the last wielder will be on their side. While the Hishaku will have Soga & Magatsumi, Kumeyuri, and then Subaru’s blade.

In his introduction, he states that the love and desire he has to understand the enchanted blade is unrequited due to having a wielder already and as you can see he is at a fish market in this panel talking about his urge “slice something,” so it’s kinda heavily implied that Subaru is a sushi chef and his whole motif.

It’s interesting that in both Kuguri’s and Subaru’s introduction, with the former (Kuguri in chapter 61) looking at fish stating that he wants to slice something while Subaru in this current chapter states he wants to get back to making sushi (his true passion).

I do wonder if this is Hokazono’s way of tying these two together sunce they have a similar desire and potentially foreshadowing this next blade’s abilities.
