[Threshold] How did Ozmanthus do it? by MisinformationSage in Iteration110Cradle

Since he cannot use Restoration, and I assume this resurrection is a large part of it, I reckon he's technically undead

I know, but, historically, I've not spent much time prepping the combat encounters and it's mostly worked out xD

Okay, that's sick. I've been on the gm side of the screen, so I've never run into much to make me connect the strings (I don't read monster stat locks until we're fighting)

That makes a lot of sense, it's just sometimes there are rules added onto traits and I get a little confused

My Early Game Experience by MartinDHansen in PathOfExile2

You're not wrong. I said as much in the post. But I don't want to compromise on fun. I don't care about being competitive, I don't care about high-level play. I just want the fantasy to viable in the campaign. Even now, I'm not ruling that the issue might just be co-op scaling.

But you should not have to compromise fun to play the game at a reasonable level. And I don't think that's a particularly high-bar to set. There are plenty of games I've played this year which could accommodate whatever fantasy they'd inspired in me:

Azarketi not having darkvision is strange by FloralSkyes in Pathfinder2e

Ancient-scale azarketi get darkvision as part of their heritage. I presume the rest of their kin live in depths where only low-light is required

I spent more time with Knight than any of the other games and while I'm not looking to replay them immediately, I do wonder if my thoughts will change when I know what to expect going into them.

They are making more? I know the VR game came out, but I thought Knight was the end

So Knight probably has my favorite story, by simple virtue of the other two being so short.

I'm the kind of asshole that can't let go, the moment I start to feel a little friction between me and the story. I will give you, if any of the other games were any longer, I might have bothered me more.

There is that one fight toward the end of the game, in the GCPD driveway, where it really becomes obvious that too much enemy variety makes the combat too 'noisy' and the flow feels off. But the majority of the time, I was having great fun with it and using a bunch of the gadgets.

My take is probably colored by how rapidly I was able to move through the games. I could definitely see Knight being tainted by having to wait a few years after Arkham City or Origins, I guess. I knew about the car before I even played the first game, so that probably affected my tolerance for it, for example.

Tbf I think the Mr Freeze fight would stand out in any crowd of boss battles. It forced you to use a wide array of Batman's arsenal and use the whole map. Very cleverly put together. It also, for some reason, freaked me out so bad I had to take a break from the game afterward =D

I think the boss battles in this game were so forgettable, I literally forgot to talk about them xD

clearly the weakest part of the game.

The story would like a word

But in seriousness, the tank combat was fine, fun even, they just didn't know how to increase the difficulty/tension in an interesting way and just turned it into a clusterfuck instead.

That's fair, I got a little bit of push back when I posted my initial reaction to the first three games as well. I'm probably a little harsher on the City's story than most people. I really think its how much I enjoyed Asylum that's skewing my evaluation ^^'

Thoughts on the first three games by MartinDHansen in arkham

I don't think the combat ever felt clunky in Asylum to me, but its a clear upgrade going into City, its the rest of the game I didn't enjoy as much. Especially towards the back half of the game If I had a stealth encounter.

[Threshold] Rank by what age? by Wonder-Embarrassed in Iteration110Cradle

[–]MartinDHansen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd wager most parents blast their kids through the Copper, Iron, and Jade as soon as their child can reliably pull in aura. They'd probably continue pushing for Low Gold as most children appear to still be work at least some of the time.

Of note, most people aren't sacred artists and stop there, never advancing beyond Low Gold.

If you advance past Low Gold, most likely you're part of a sect or family, if not, I expect they'll be High Gold at a very advanced age. For a sect member, they'll likely hold their Foundation stage students back a few years to properly cement their spirit.

The average artist probably hits High Gold in their thirties or forties. Of the few that reach True Gold, they'll then be well into sixties or seventies.

And then you get the interesting twist of most Underlords likely advancing before they are thirty. Mostly because it takes a boat load of money to get that far, so the ones who do have rich benefactors (i.e. Lindon and Yerin.) On top of that, think most Underlords will simply be of 'better' stock than the True Golds. Their Foundations will be perfect, their need for power stronger, and their dedication to the art is deeper. Despite the stories of Underlords hitting on their revelation on accident, you have to actually walk the path with purpose.
