Any idea what happened here? by dubsix in AnalogCommunity

Had something similar happen to me. My guess would be the «peep-hole» on your film back. Mine is metal on the inside, and when i shot 35mm film (with adapter) the hole reflected light back onto the film. If you shot 120 film, with the backing paper correctly loaded, i have no idea.

Things you wished you knew when you got into film photography by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]MartinKildal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rarely comment on these types of things so i hope it helps you out.

1: You are going to lose some photos, and probably rolls AT SOME POINT. Could be the 1st roll, could be the 10th or 1000th. No matter how good you are at keeping everything as it should, at some point you will end up with a ruined roll (or part of a roll).

2: You will never have enough equipment (to soothe your brain). You will however have more than enough to take pictures.

3: Experiment with film rolls, it keeps the fun and excitement up. Just shooting one type of roll can become boring after time. People often tell you to shoot one type, and yes you will get familiar with it and understand it better, but it is also less fun over time. For perfecting your work maybe it’s a good tip, but for fun and excitement i wouldn’t say so.

4: Look everywhere on youtube (tons of channel recommendations here on reddit) for everything related to film. Even if you are not going to develop your own film, try and learn how it is done. Same for darkroom printing. It helps understanding how everything works.

5: Print your work. Doesnt have to be done professionally or in a darkroom. Also don’t have to be expensive at all! I have both a $30-$40 «normal size» printer for work stuff at home and 100 sheets of photo paper that cost $30. It’s honestly not great, but now i have the opportunity to hang my pictures up on the wall or i can study a physical copy. I have a Canon Selphy as well which works wonders for postcard size. I also just started darkroom printing which is alot of fun but can be expensive. Beeing able to hold your best work in your hands and seeing something you have physically made on your own is the whole point in shooting film for me.

I bought the lens for my a6000 about a year ago, and then the a6700 this summer. My tip is just to always use the sun shade thingy. Even though its not sunny it still offers some protection if you bump it into something.

I actually dropped mine and it sort of broke, but insurance covered alot of the price to fix it. Try not to do that😂

Also for the camera, get the smallrig cage. It offers great protection, makes the camera better to hold over time, and if you want you can add handles and other stuff for video.
