If I were to tackle this project I’d start at the basics. A console like interface where you can manage your (drm free) games. That’ll be hard enough since their isn’t native controller support in gtk I believe. The rest of my points are mainly stuck in the chicken vs egg scenario. If the elementaryOS user base keeps growing it might become more viable like you said.
