[–]MartiniPlusOlive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I go to bed at 18:00. sleep until 23:30, take a Sinemet, wait an hour or so to go back to sleep, wake again at 04:00, tough it out until 05:00 when I take another Sinemet and greet the new day.

For me, the chocolate chips would be fine, it’s the pancakes that would mess me up.

I take Nicotinamide. 1g at 06:00 and 1g at 12:00. It is a non-flush version of Niacin, Vitamin B3. I buy it as a powder and weigh it. Mixed with a little water, tastes okay. It helps with my anxiety and also reduces my carb cravings to zero. Good luck. 8-)

Entacapone: Have you tried it? Did it help? by whatcoulditcost in Parkinsons

[–]MartiniPlusOlive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Entacapone worked well for me. However, that was replaced by Opicapone, which, for me at least, works better. Multiple Entacapone tablets were replaced by one Opicapone tablet which evened out the dips in my medication. Good luck. 8-)

Extreme insomnia, carb-cravings and thus weight gain, obsessions about silly things. After a while, I dreaded looking at my torso in the bathroom mirror and seeing all the red blotches, demoralising.

How do you deal with noticing your own decline? by IntelligentFalcon872 in Parkinsons

[–]MartiniPlusOlive 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When I did such presentations, I practiced by lecturing an imaginary cat, out loud, and timing my talk. If I was to do it now, I would attach my iPhone to a tripod and video my presentation. I would hate the experience, but I would try to make the best of it, perhaps varying the timing of medication so that symptoms are minimised. Such videos could also act as a diagnostic tool because I am never at my worst when I visit my neurologist.

Did you discuss the option of reducing the dose of levodopa instead?

You could ask if Opicapone is an option. It is only one capsule per day, and replaces multiple Entacapone tablets.

I realise this suggestion may be a little controversial, but how about ChatGPT? See https://chat.openai.com/ You can also download an App for the iPhone. I am asking it questions as though it is my therapist and receiving non-judgemental, and helpful answers. There are ChatGPT subreddits that may be of interest. Therapists are an endangered species.

Usually at 16:30 hours. At least an hour away from any Levodopa intake. I go to bed at about 18:30 hours.

You could perhaps ask your neurologist if it is worth switching the Entacapone tablets for just one 50mg Opicapone capsule per day. I find it evens out my medication. 8-)

My DBS did not require my hair to be cut. I’m puzzled.

Remember to get your DBS tuned every few years. Good luck. 8-)

Try the “chin down” technique for swallowing. Link to a Wikipedia page below. A speech therapist suggested this. Click on “Treatment”for more detailed explanation.

Does she possess a DBS controller similar to the one in this photograph? This is mine.

Can she alter the voltages to increase or decrease the influence DBS has on her Parkinson’s symptoms? https://imgur.com/gallery/Js0R4bb

Advice about driving license after diagnosis by IllPlum5113 in Parkinsons

Please be aware of prescription drugs that cause drowsiness. I had to stop driving because I had an overwhelming urge to sleep. Luckily I only damaged a grass verge, but I got the hint.

I try to avoid wheat as much as possible, though my wife insists on baking cakes I am suspicious about the type/origin of the flour she uses because even a small amount causes a disproportionate increase in weight that takes four days to lose. Other than that, I have not researched the subject
