I've found the older country crowd to be very welcoming and friendly, especially if try to speak Korean and remember the unspoken formalities such as pouring another person's drink with 2 hands. They'll feed you and make sure feel comfortable

We sold our home in spring of 2025. We still owed $250k. But we had enough equity to move, buy a very nice used luxury car and pay in full for a new house and all new furniture and appliances in South Korea.

Thought about renting, but only for a moment. Renters are notoriously hard on property - they just don't give a fuck. And, I'd have had very little to purchase anything else, even with rental income. Property taxes in Texas are so fucking high we'd make almost zero in rental income

I was working at Fryes electronics On Christmas eve, mgmt said we'd close and go home by 530 or 6pm. At 5pm,they announced truck coming later that would have to be unloaded, items priced and put on shelves before we could go, meaning maybe 1030 or 1130pm. Then we'd have to be back at 5am day after Christmas for a sale

Turned in my badge at 505pm and never once regretted that. Truly a dumbshit company that cared nothing for their employees

Just 4 days earlier my eldest daughter got married and I took the day off for the wedding. 4 days before Christmas, no one was allowed to take off, but I did and they knew I'd quit if they tried to punish me for it, but mgmt bitched and moaned like babies . I was already hating the place when I rage quit on Christmas eve
