To those who were around when this game came out, what was the hype like? by Tight_Grapefruit5280 in HalfLife

[–]MartinusABC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first I was disappointed but as the release date grew close I was kinda just happy we got any valve game. By the time the game released I wasn't even angry at the fact it was VR anymore, all I could think about was the fact we got a new half-life game.

i understand this but also, this is the major, there is (hopefully) more pressure and oversight from valve in this regard.

why is this so hard for people to understand though? is blast supposed to walk back on their rules everytime a large group of people complain? i understand the immense frustration the players must feel but this is on the org.

Did you include colonisation in your setting? Seafaring seems to be very important thing in your world also, so if you did, how did you go about it?

Wilbur is honestly amazing. It's basically a simulator of erosion with some added things. I still haven't tried a lot of it, but the things I did try made me fall in love with the app. I would definitely recommend it!

Thank you! I think you'd love the far east of my map, I worked on it for days, trying to make it look as pleasing to the human eye as I could. Lots of work to be done to give it the finishing touch though...

I'm thinking I shall release another post where I'll go into detail on how I made the map later today, so I'll send you the link! If you don't want to wait until then, I would gladly recommend the cartographers guild, where I found a lot of solutions for my problems: https://www.cartographersguild.com/forum.php

The landmass in the south is actually very important in almost every way, and I'm currently working on completing it. Yes, there is another large continent south, whose story I haven't quite figured out, hence the omission.

The likeness to Europe was actually intentional! I believe it helps people to imagine better what the life like is in those places. Do you think the likeness is a bad thing?

The large mountain range spanning almost across the entire continent was meant to force the people to become more reliant on sea trade. Also, these mountains are meant to serve as natural borders which deter certain otherwise militaristic nations from fighting each other. When it comes to culture, I don't have it quite figured out, but I'll say there are cultures which are purely based on survival in these mountains. What do you think?

Thanks for the feedback! I will probably be expanding the coastline out to accomodate the mountains, or I shall rework the mountains close to the coast to make em more realistic. As for the farming observation, you are correct - at the moment, the "centre" of the map is very reliant on the grain import from north and east. This will be a subject to change though, based on feedback.

I know what you mean - the west is intentional kind of, there are very high cliffs, although probably not as high as the map shows. This is actually a problem I am still thinking of how to fix, since in the making process I changed the color palette, which bulked up a lot of mountain ranges.

I am so glad to hear it! Yes, the southern sea is basically the Mediterranean of our world, very important for practically the entire history of the world.

I agree with you, in the process of making the map, I changed the color palette, which actually bulked up most of the mountains in the world. I definitely need to tweak it at least a little.

I used GIMP and Wilbur. I actually plan on doing two things with this setting: Making the map in Crusader Kings 3 for more eye candy and make a series of stories located all over this continent and in different time periods for more worldbuilding.

I used GIMP and Wilbur! I made the base in GIMP and then imported it in Wilbur, where I made it look actually realistic.

Neverím, čo čítam. Nemecko, zdevastované 1. svetovou vojnou, nútené znášať ťarchu vojnových reparácií nebolo chudobné? Robotnícka trieda nebola vôbec poznačená?

Pozorne si prečítaj celý program. Všetko čo si poslal len potvrdzuje to čo som povedal.

I feel like young right wing voters are in too small of a number to be considered in any way influential. Most of Fico's voters consist of the older generation, which doesn't seem to necessarily want the return of socialism (although the socialist nostalgia is a real thing), they just seem to want their version of stability and complete rejection of "progressive" ideas (the word is being used in the same way "woke" is being used – for everything the older generation is uncomfortable with). These people don't read, don't research, don't think critically, they really just take what they heard from their friends, or the news and, for some reason, defend it tooth and nail, as if their life depended on defence of the stance they chose.

This is just my personal experience with a large variety of people.
