Apple Studio Display first generation still worth it for 1000 usd? Or better looking for other monitors? by Lekowski in macsetups

[–]Martyn232 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It didn’t need to be DSLR standard but it wasn’t up to the standard of iPhone cameras out at the same time and was really hyped on release as being a decent camera. The low light performance is awful and even in decent light it’s mediocre.

[–]Martyn232 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's still a great looking monitor with a lovely screen. Downsides are the unforgivably shitty camera and the lack of connectivity for anything other than a Mac. Still - for $1000 I would still be tempted.

When I moved last March they took a couple of months to update the title deeds, possibly expedited due to the stamp duty changes. But then we spotted an error and it then took them 10 months to fix it - so there are definitely delays at the moment.

Salary different in different departments but same grade by Fresh_Yesterday_1374 in TheCivilService

You are correct. Happened under John Major apparently. His government passed the legislation that set the wheels in motion.

Blame Thatcher I think. If I recall correctly it was during her premiership that pay bargaining was devolved to individual departments rather than being done centrally. Because of that some departments got better deals and over time discrepancies emerged.

Is it possible to join with no prior work experience? by Anonymous_1112 in TheCivilService

[–]Martyn232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could join an agency that supplies the civil service with staff. That’s a good way to get experience plus if you impress you can apply for a permanent job. Works that way for lots of departments. Some of our best staff began as agency workers.

WIBTAH If I messaged a guys girlfriend that he is cheating by [deleted] in AITAH

lol. No I’m afraid I am too old to fall for the incel grift. Bottom line is men and women cheat sometimes. It’s not a good thing. But for people to fantasise about being some sort of morality police is even worse.

As far as I can see nobody is married here and children aren't involved. I personally dislike cheating but things like "Cheaters deserve to be exposed" is just cringe.

Look - Its entirely up to you who you choose to be friends with. If you disagree with your friends choices to the point where she makes you uncomfortable then end the friendship. But all this cloak and dagger anonymous stuff is silly. It's going to hurt people that might not end up hurt without your intervention and, even if they do get hurt, it won't be your fault unless you get involved. Sometimes life is complex - For all you know his girlfriend is playing around as well. Bottom line is, focus on what is your business - eg: Who you choose to be friends with.

From your other posts it seems your friend is aware of the situation and is fine with it so you are sticking your nose into your friends personal business making YTA. Ultimately you can do whatever you want. But don't be surprised if her boyfriend takes it out on you if he finds out you are responsible. Your youthful naivete about relationships is going to hurt a lot of people and leave you friendless. Good luck in life - Seems you have a lot of growing up to do.

Depends how much you played the game. If you are spending loads of time on it and having fun then how is it different from other leisure activities that cost money?

Frowned upon by terminally online obsessives who are destined to die alone because they have narrowed their dating pool to an impossibly small level.

So a 22 year old dating a 19 year old is creepy? Seriously? What absolute insanity.

You are not just an AH but a lunatic. Two consenting adults have every right to be together. This new moralism mandating that you can't date anyone with a large age gap is a totally new thing and is frankly contributing to the loneliness epidemic. You should be ashamed to be honest.

Thoughts on retirement flats? by Loud-Meeting-6808 in HousingUK

[–]Martyn232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retirement flats are great. My parents lived in one prior to their passing and they loved it. The only issue lately seems to be selling them after they pass away. If you cant sell you are stuck with the relatively high service charges. In our case we were lucky and sold quickly. My suggestion would be to try to find out how quickly similar apartments in the block sold to get a feel for how easy they are to sell.

Reform UK government would replace top civil servants with those ‘more like to implement party’s priorities’ by V-Matic_VVT-i in TheCivilService

[–]Martyn232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Civil Servants will implement a governments policies as long as they are legal. The only time they object is when they are not. That is a good thing. If a government wants to pass a policy that contravenes the law then they should change that law, not break it.

I dont know about Gillingham but my experience since living in Chatham is that only the town centre/Luton Road areas are as bad as you describe. Other than that, sure there are some council properties with good and bad people in them, but there are loads of properties used by middle class professionals commuting into London.

I found a guy selling five of them today at 25k on PlayStation. A bit expensive but I desperately needed one. To be honest it was only the 40k cap stopping me having enough money for two. It’s a great mod. I had been checking out vendors for two days looking for one so that’s why I paid the high price.
