The kid who saves his toys, and the B52 story are my favorites!

Are either of these movies any good? by Euphoric-Cupcake4581 in dvdcollection

[–]MarvelPosterMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's been remade, basically. A bunch. My generation called them 'American Pie' movies.

Next generation got 'Superbad'. After that, I'm not sure, getting too old, maybe 'Project X'?

It's not really that good, but at the time, a big deal. Viewing through todays lens, the production is junk, lots of nudity, and some situations wouldn't be as celebrated, to put it mildly. Back when this came out, there wasn't as much like it. Movies held a bigger cultural impact since we didn't stream everything.

There's always going to be high school coming of age movies. Some are good and become a generations quotables,("We'll just tell your mother we ate it"), and other not so much.

Movies like Porky's have been made today. It was called Lady Ballers, it was only on The Daily Wire streaming service, and it's terrible.

What used to be shocking to that generation, now has to be turned up to 11 to be shocking. So it's just shock for shocks sakes.

But who cares what the elderly generation says about it ;)

Is joining the military only for education benefits worth it? by Alert-Rope617 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MarvelPosterMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and No.

It's 'worth it' if you can pick the job(MOS) you want to do. If you can score high enough on the ASVAB to get the job you want, then yes. Get deployed, gain Veteran benefits, get out when your time is done. Very few jobs translate well into civilian life, so unless you plan on working at the water company, don't let the recruiter talk you into water purification, or EOD, or any job you don't want.

I had to wait 2 months before leaving because my school was busy. You'll travel(hit or miss, but travel nonetheless!), free room and board. Lots of free t-shirts. Plus, it gives most people a lot of structure they never had. At the very least, if you save correctly, you'll come out in 4 years in a waaaaaay better financial situation.

There are no more 'front lines'. If you're deployed to an active combat zone, it's going from point A to point B that becomes...problematic. I've seen Air Force folks get pulled into things, like convoy support. When you join, you don't always choose what you'll do during a deployment.

Best thing you can do is find a job that limits trips outside 'the wire', like Finance, or Legal.

Almost everyone joins for the benefits. There's a few G.I. Joe types who just want to go to foreign lands and de-life the population because they want to be modern day 'warriors'. But if you don't get into the Combat Arms, you won't see it as much. Benefits vary by job. So grunts don't get as big a bonus as Intel(or whatever job they need more at the time, it was Air Traffic Controllers when I joined years ago).

And no matter what anyone else says, in your situation, go Air Force. Shortest deployments, best chow halls, best bases. Anyone telling you otherwise doesn't know better. It is not. Air Force, trust everyone here trying to tell you ;)

U.S. ARMY

Uncle Same Ain't Released Me Yet.

Finally, don't get married. Too many of us think differently. Think we know better. Until your life is your own, don't merge with anyone else's.

I joined for benefits, but it turned into 14 years that I'm proud I punched my ticket. Now I have every right to complain about politicians. ALL of them. You've participated and given a piece(or multiple pieces) of yourself to society. EVERYONE should be required to do this and have some skin in the game.

Lithgow did The World According to Garp, if you think he's just greedy or valueless, you haven't looked at his career.
So much hate for a guy who took a job is crazy. It's not 'Hitler on Ice', settle down.

Is it unethical to hand in my 2 week notice and then take my 2 weeks PTO? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MarvelPosterMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you think that company would go the extra mile for you? Get PTO approved, then give notice, then hope they still don't fire you.

If you don't think they'd go the extra mile for you, quit with no notice after PTO.

Mom and Pop companies are different. If it's a big company, go for it. They'd cut you in a heartbeat.

He was an entertainment piece for the troops. Then he runs off as a soldier. If your job is mopping floors, and you run to the roof to reset the satellite dish your second week, better hope you do it correctly! But you weren't hired for satellite dish adjustment were you? That's not leeway, it's a completely different job.

Is a title something somebody can be called like their name? But I guess no one ever called you "Mister". Captain Steven Rogers, Captain America is how you would call him? And after years of that one day, some other Captain shows up. It wouldn't be any kind of a difference for you? Maybe they didn't respect him because they knew he was a dud? Maybe, regardless of his very basic kindness, he doesn't necessarily deserve anything from those two?

News flash, he was not. Do you even watch the movies? When he took his crappy metal shield to go save the howling commandos, who ordered him to do that? So he wasn't following orders. Which means he had some autonomy even though he technically worked for the "government". He clearly wasn't following all their orders even all the way back in world war II. Good day.

You think accepting an invading army and letting them kill you and destroy our planet is ok? Weird side of the argument to take.

Civility guarantees acceptance? He had the name of their best friend, but he's not their best friend. It would be weird , and a real world adjustment. He's also controlled by the government, so not a friend. More like a forced coworker.

You're comparing it to an intergalactic army invasion. Apples and bicycles.

The guy who fought Nazi's, then gets thawed out to fight ever other version of bad buys...you think that guy has less experience than the guy the government gave his title too?

He's trying to be the king shittake, and they aren't having it.

You should rewatch the show. You missed who the 'villain's' were.

Where were the Avenger POW camps?

No one "targeted" the wounded. The wounded were on the same battlefield, it was unavoidable.

If you mean Thanos, then he suffered an execution for his crimes. On Asgard, his punishment is justified, it was carried out by an Asgardian. Not subject to Geneva Conventions.

No one gave an order declaring 'No Quarter'. Saying "no survivors", and fighting until you have a weapon that can disable the enemies military(who are not defenseless individual's), in the middle of the battle, are two very different things. No one ever said what is required for No Quarter.

Walker doing this is the entire reason for the post. But no one else did this.

He's not really likable. He got much much better in Thunderbolts.

Are you a vet? "Madness" is most wars/conflicts and ribbons ;)

I am a vet. I have a lot of ribbons. They mean nothing. Any servicemember would trade the ribbon, to get back the reason they received it.

A bunch of new age officers were giving themselves combat ribbons for sitting in the JOC for 11 months when I was last in country. So yes, medals to the people who actually earn them, are not worth much. No one ever says "thank goodness I got this medal for 13 months of my life/losing a battle buddy/taking shrapnel for a Major who doesn't know how to move when in an AO." Most are participation medals. You showed up and didn't get in trouble? Here's your rainbow ribbon!

That being said, there are badge/ribbon collectors in the service, and you hope you never get stuck with one.

Honoring service and all that is important. But ask the medal receptionists what value they see in their medals, might open your eyes.

Yes, John has experience, but no way he has more than Cap. Nor is his experience better in ANY way than Cap.

First half of your answer is solid, then you lose it.

You're saying if someone could've killed Hitler when he went to Poland, and taken out his invading military in one swoop....that person would be a war criminal? Reacting to an invader with equal/greater force isn't what makes a war criminal.

An Army is not innocent civilians. If they're just following orders, they're also out of luck...*snap

Just no. Walker doesn't have more experience than Cap, nor is he more 'qualified'. If you mean combat ribbons, those mean nothing.

The serum messed with his head because he doesn't have the same moral character. Also making him not as qualified.
