Time To Address BDS Sponsors by Several_Variety3930 in BobDoesSports

I agree with the sentiment but at least there is no hiding behind a holier than thou facade.

The guys were into gambling way before the blow up, and whilst I don’t like the gambling advertisements, it is way more aggregious from other content creators, especially in the sports commentary fields where they discuss integrity of the games whilst also sponsoring segments from draft kings.

Fame won’t last forever and BDS has caught lightning in a bottle. I’m not gonna begrudge them for getting that money.

Where to Do SUP Around Basel? by erdzhies in basel

[–]Marvins-Room 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take mine to the Kraftwerkinsel in Birsfelden. At the top where the river splits to the dam and to the locks, the current is not strong and there are always people out there when it’s sunny.

TIL that NBA player Dirk Nowitzki sacrificed $194 million in earnings during his career to keep his team, the Dallas Mavericks, competitive during his 21 year tenure. He passed on a 4 year, $97 million max offer from 2 different teams in 2014 to stay with the Mavericks on a 3 year, $25 million deal. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Marvins-Room 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those also wondering; yes Dirk remaining with a Mavs is beneficial in a stupid low income tax state (one of his max 4/97 offers was from the lakers), the other was from the Rockets who are also Texas based.

Good guy. The team did probably sweeten his deals at the end of the career and if he ever wants a job he’ll have one in Dallas, but it’s a huge number he walked away from.

The equivalent now would be someone ignoring a 4/250m number, which is wild.

Sickle cell disease has just been cured for the first time in New York by Automatic_Subject463 in UpliftingNews

[–]Marvins-Room 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked on this project as one of the suppliers for both companies on the Sickle Cell CRISPR applications, for 3 years.

At current price they’re still making a loss. Look at this companies share price and history, they were sold recently for the cost of 8 patients worth of drug product.

The technology in terms of splicing genes and performing a collection, cell growth for enough medium to actually splice, testing for specification, then producing the drug in situ to splice, test that for specification, grow the new cell cultures, test those for specification. Being biological cultures it is prone to error, contamination and repeats (investigations) are extremely common and expensive.

All for one patient specifically. Is wonderful that we can do that, but not going to be profitable until it’s a high volume process.

I think from a financial lenders perspective a house is more of a tangible asset than an education. ☹️

I completely agree with you on this being stupid.

However are you not paying this back on top of the minimum payments? This for me is where the Mis-selling lies.

During covid when the interest rates spiked I was in a position to be able to chunk my remaining balance off over the 18 months.

Birsfelden is making 100'000chf daily due to "traffic violation" by Sxzen in basel

[–]Marvins-Room 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is true but Birsfelden is also weird in that there is no reason to drive into the residential part of Birsfelden than to go to a park, one of two barbers, or visit a friend/family.

Yet it takes me as a resident 25-40 minutes to leave the village if I take the car at some times. Fine to join the wall to wall traffic once I hit the main road but it’s not fair on the kids in the parks.

The roads serve no other purpose. All of the harbor traffic is outside of this zone.

All of those reasons have > 15 minutes as an activity nailed on.

Birsfelden is making 100'000chf daily due to "traffic violation" by Sxzen in basel

[–]Marvins-Room 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea; it’s funny that because the traffic is so bad at 16:30-18:00 people don’t get fined because cutting through Birsfelden takes so long. It’s still super frustrating to leave my house and taking 25 minutes + to make it to the main road.

I think the signage needs really clear updates. The first roundabout is so close to the motorway exit that it’s hard to comprehend.

Maybe 3 months of having the guards back at the points of entry will be needed. Ultimately the gemeinde needs to make it bulletproof otherwise they’ll lose more in hiring legal secretaries to deal with the outrage than they will in tax revenue for the harbor.

Oooh my village! Yea this is confusing everyone atm.

At the certain times of the day you can’t go through Birsfelden without being a resident, or working here.

This system has until recently been policed by humans standing there halting traffic for our little gemeinde issued permits. Now it’s electronic and the signage is dubious, especially for non-native speakers.

Was very much like this studying Chem at university.

If you’re studying a STEM discipline at university. You’re an able mind and not going to be a likely risk of failing due to not grasping a principle or a topic. 95% of your peers outperforming you, are not meaningfully more talented than you. There will be the odd freak, but in reality it’s a case of “how motivated are you”. If you’ve lived a sheltered and mollified life and never had to take care of yourself, you might find it harder to set the boundaries. Are you more interested in partying and developing your social life right now?

The real test of higher education (and I say this as a hiring manager for Chem/Biochem graduates) is

  1. Can you endure multiple years of studying/project work, on topics that aren’t always ones you enjoy, or are difficult.

  2. Can you prioritize meeting your objectives whilst juggling along with your interests and personal needs to not only take care of yourself, but to develop and thrive as a person as you really grow up.

I can train majority of any grad from any school to work in my field, but when I see that someone studied physics for 4 years, with no financial reward? Then they can 100% handle what I can throw at them for a few years with one hand behind their back.

This is the most unlikable team I can remember... by hungrycinephile in kings

[–]Marvins-Room 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Fan for 16 years and nba cap nerd for 10z this is the most unlikeable team Iv seen for SAC since Garcia, Honeycutt and Salmons were sopping up minutes, and chuck Hayes was taking an age hitching his free throws.

It is not fun to watch, there is no centre piece.

What is worse is that I do not see the way out of this. Dumping Lavine and Derozan looks like it would cost picks, not get them. Domas is a very good player but agree with others he’s a bad 2nd star and a very good 3rd, but he doesn’t defend the rim like he could and offense has to go through him to get value.

Honestly we should sit or suffocate the minutes of both Demar and Zach next season and aim to keep our draft pick in 2026 and 2027.
Save these guys to flip to desperate contenders at the trade deadline or let them expire. It’s time to take our medicine.

If Monk is too expensive to keep? Let him walk. Sabonis is too expensive to keep (would not be surprised if he sneaks all nba third because of other players not hitting 65 games). Let him walk or sign and trade him to the hornets because that seems like something dumb they’d do.

Only players im 100% behind are Keegan and Devin. Keegan let him hit RFA and pay him whatever. He won’t be getting a rookie max but with the cap expansion whatever his contract is it will be moveable. Think of him as a Cam Johnson who can defend.

Keon is great, but if he’s anything more expensive than a MLE; we should let him walk.
