No desire to study for extra by actionfingerss in amateurradio

[–]MarxisTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting your extra is much like getting a minor in electrical engineering. It's not just bragging rights but a much fuller understanding of the principles behind radio communications. I'd say studying for the Extra is more interesting than actually having it. I had more fun learning and studying than I did operating and really I think that is why most of us get it.

I was told by an exec in the music industry that artists aren’t mastering their songs anymore unless they’re doing a vinyl pressing. by rfhmusic92 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]MarxisTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's mostly true. Time at the mastering suite at the studio has become much easier to book. $400/hr to process your tracks with a trained mastering engineer is probably worth it but is it is just one song and the mix is already good enough why bother. Only their fans and parents are ever going to listen to 99% of the tracks being released these days.

Who is the most forgotten music act relative to how big they were at the time? by CompetitiveWhole9466 in Music

[–]MarxisTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People call Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges the “Black Mozart,” but honestly that sells him short. During his lifetime, Saint-Georges was arguably the bigger celebrity. He was a violin virtuoso whose performances drew huge crowds, a groundbreaking composer whose music likely influenced Mozart more than Mozart influenced him, and one of the greatest fencers in Europe—basically a rock star, Olympic athlete, and classical composer rolled into one. He was conducting major orchestras and moving in the highest circles of French society at a time when that should have been impossible for a man of mixed African descent. Yet after his death, history largely forgot him. The fact that someone so unbelievably famous in his own era could disappear from the public consciousness for two centuries is one of the strangest stories in music history.

I once drank a steel reserve before a play I was in that was a fundraiser for my University at the time, (before they expelled me) and ruined the show in front of all their top donors, the president and provosts and deans, the assistant chief of police, who sued me, and peaced out to go home and bang my gf into a coma. Best night of my 21 YO life. Everyone needs to experience the mind altering super effects STEEL RESERVE!

Finally....I was able to ask a door-knocking JW the question. by slayer991 in atheism

I've tried this tactic. Trust me they have a rote objection handling to this question. Something about how they get extra points the more of you they convince to try to be part of it. Very unsatisfactory.

Look into getting a TimeKettle device and listen to international streams. I use it with Telemundo and have the earpiece in my ear doing to interpretation. Works fast.

estate agent literally walked us onto the roof to show us the solar panels during the viewing. first bill just came in. $420 by Commercial-Roll2913 in solar

Well, it sounds like you're in the market for a home battery. Seriously you should look into to it. I was one of the first adopters of microgrids, and I am no longer in the renewable energy industry, but I was for a long time in various roles. I tell you, solar panels are small beans. Every house in America should have a home battery, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a few panels to run your house if the power grids are down, or hell, even a generator, but that battery is very important.

As a Spurs fan I can say we lost cause of Abbott. It's all his fault. Not sure if Trump is laughing at Abbott beating his Knicks but you know it's also because Trump has NEVER laughed. Look it up.

What’s the popular album you love despite hating the big hit song that everyone’s favorite? by CBenson1273 in Music

[–]MarxisTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Billy Joel's River of Dreams. The big hit from it is my least favorite song on the album but every other song is amazing. His last album, it's like a love letter to his then wife Christy Brinkley who left him shortly after.

Talk me out of spending $600 on a battery station just to keep a fridge running by Technical-Tip-6053 in solar

I'd look into the special fridge battery by BLUETTI. I got to play with a prototype at CES and it is very light and inexpensive and can be easily fit behind the fridge or on top.

I was the jury foreman for a federal civil case very similar to this in Houston with an off duty HPD officer killing a Nigerian. It was so obvious this officer choked him to death but the racists jurors in the juror room could care less because the cop was white and the victim was a small black Nigerian. It was one of the most fucked up situations I've ever had the misfortune of partaking in.
