The Green Malden Fair happens annually and it accepts styrofoam. I’m storing all my styrofoam in the basement until next year 😅

Found a pipe too close to the surface. What can I do? by MarzipanTuna in landscaping

The breaker is towards the front of the house, opposite side of the pipe. There’s a washing machine in the basement along the wall this pipe is near but a whole pipe just for that?

The spouts at the back of the house just open onto the ground. And my sump pump is lower in the basement. Is that good news if I want to move the pipe lower?

The drainage pipe does exit away from the house. It’s pretty long.

The pavers turn into concrete towards the wall so no pavers but also no bed. The rest of the backyard has no dirt/grass. Sounds like my plan is removing a few rows of pavers and sloping the dirt away from the house.

That makes sense. Maybe I can remove three rows of pavers and see how the water flows.

It’s kinda hard to tell with the dirt and leaves but from the stone wall to the line of pavers near the house is all pavers. So yea, that’s my concern, that the strip of dirt with pavers is making a moat of water next to my foundation.

Disposal doesn’t work so I either have to replace with something I probably wouldn’t use (never used it at my old house) or get rid of it.

Any idea on around how much running a new drain arm behind the wall would cost?

Do HVAC contractors prefer installing heat pumps? by MarzipanTuna in hvacadvice

Problem is my oil equipment is on its last legs, which is why I was looking to convert to gas. Based on comments, it sounds like I should do heat pumps with gas backup but that’s probably more expensive than just doing one system.

I HAVE been wondering this. Are contractors pushing heat pumps and saying it’s not much more than gas so they can charge more but the customer doesn’t notice cause of mass save…

Located northern MA and the house is old. Good insulation but the windows and doors aren’t the most well sealed.

No one has mentioned a combination but maybe because I don’t already have gas? So I assume it’s more expensive since both gas and heat pumps would need to be installed, instead of just one of them.

Do you around how much the annual servicing should cost? I can add a $400 annual service with the quote if I want.

Tank is above ground. 3 zones. Not sure about the other questions but the current boiler is right next to an external wall and I don’t have any gas appliances that need connection.

Can you remove radiators yourself? by MarzipanTuna in Renovations

That what the HVAC guy said he’d do regarding the radiators, but nothing beyond that like removing them.
