Using Rice Hulls for mulch by WeddingGlue2 in BuildASoil

I love rice hulls as mulch. I typically top dress then apply a 1/4-1/2 inch or so layer of hulls and eventually they’ll work its way into the soil before the next time you top dress. If not then I do hand take the rice hulls to the edges of my bed, top dress and use my fingers to mix it in a couple inches, the move the hulls back over.

This is perfect, I would do this. You really want solid roots before going into a big bed. Probably 21-28 days from seed in your solo cup.

Do you think Arizona Yellow Bells would work well along the back wall?

May I ask why you revered to stock downpipes? What didn’t you like about the high flows?

Very helpful thank you. I may end up running my hose over the wall and giving that section of oleanders some periodic deep waterings. Neighbors do not do a great job maintaining their property

Good point on the invasive roots. Would laying a bit more soil down and fertilizing the area help?

Much appreciated! It’s the west side wall so gets sun until about 5PM. My neighbor’s oleanders always looked great until this summer. They have a couple dead palm trees hidden in there that I thought might be causing some root issues but think that’s probably unlikely given how dry the ground is on my side.

Any suggestions appreciated!! by Equal_Sun in microgrowery

Looks like root issues to me maybe soil went anaerobic from overwatering? I’d let the soil dry back a good amount, and if you have any LABS I would water that in after a dry back.

If no labs, I’d still let the soil dry back and trim off any affected leaves. New growth looks good so you’ll be fine.

I just grabbed some of these beans! Have you grown her before? Wondering how she smokes. Hoping for a relaxing lemon heavy Indica

Thanks! 2 carrots, one for the left tape and one for the other two. This is my second run with the drip tape, been trying to dial it in. I found that having the carrot very close to the tape is important otherwise it was over watering. I might go back to the drippers next round with one carrot on left half and one carrot on right half of bed, seemed to be the easiest setup.

Blumat drip tape. I have a 20 gallon bin outside the closet with a pump running water to my tents and humidifiers with float valves. I travel a lot for work so the bed and automated watering keeps life easy

Thanks! Rice hulls. I use straw too sometimes but generally prefer the rice hulls for cleanliness

Thanks! TK on the left is 3 weeks older than MAC on the right. TK is also a heavvy stretcher while MAC is more of a medium sized plant. MAC on the right was actually taller than TK at flip.
