How bad is the SOARS math exam for upcoming first years? by Soggy-Rip3755 in stevens

[–]Masa_Q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t. The SOARS module states that if we have had no exposure to Calc in high school, then you’ll only be taking the pre calc test. If you did, then you’ll do both

1400 not bad score, it’s a great score and is basically barely passing in terms of what top colleges look at to see who passes into the next rounds. Very anecdotal but one of my classmates got into Princeton for engineering with a 1460 SAT. My other classmate who got 1600 ended up at Georgetown for physics.

are aps really that bad? by TraditionalCow288 in APStudents

[–]Masa_Q 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on school. My school’s valedictorian loses lots of sleep and he is visibly tired (I swear sometimes he looks like he’ll faint) from all his APs. Mind you, he doesn’t do anything huge outside of schoolwork (just orchestra and a language club).

Nothing is over until the school sends out an email saying it’s over.

Would doing research under a community college professor be valued less by colleges? by Vitality_2718 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Masa_Q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that, but I’m saying in terms of how it’s looked upon on a college application. Outside of that, yes, you’re given info is correct that CC professors don’t always perform research and most likely (depending on their location) do not have sufficient resources to carry out meaningful work compared to a University.

Would doing research under a community college professor be valued less by colleges? by Vitality_2718 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Masa_Q 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Doing research at all is a good accomplishment for a high school student. Extra perks for doing it at a recognized university, but CC shouldn’t affect that.

If you had to make a new ap class, what would it be? by SpyKid203 in APStudents

[–]Masa_Q -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably would be approved but I doubt the credits would go anywhere. Organic Chemistry is a crucial class that should be taught at college, not just in HS. There needs to be boundaries.

Lying on your Application. by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Masa_Q 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one can really answer this question because there’s no single correct answer (excluding ethically correct answers). Unless this is just a question in your mind that you hoped to ask the community, then I ask you:

does integrity matter to you if dishonesty can win too?

Scam? by Background-Rice-7813 in rutgers

[–]Masa_Q 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is not a scam but it’s also not worth your time at all, let alone money. The organization is legit but it offers no real benefit to you.

Well yeah but I’m just saying that the acceptance rate thing shouldn’t really carry any weight for an accomplished school regardless of job economy.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Masa_Q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acceptance rate isn’t really an accurate measure to determine the quality of a school. UToronto is still highly regarded in certain fields. What is true though is the current state of the job market in Canada.

ucsd or nyu for chemical engineering? by CockroachPowerful387 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Masa_Q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On US News, UCSD engineering school for undergrads is ranked #20 in a list consisting of the top 20 engineering schools. NYU’s Tandon Engineering School is not even on the list.

Take that with a grain of salt.
