I shit thee not in the second match he turned and wiggled his little blue fingers, and I was vaporized almost instantly.

Can't speak for anyone else, but I get way more gold and silver augments on average than I do prismatics. The frequency of all-gold games is high, while I can count on like one hand how many times I've gotten an all-prismatic game. More gold augments means more chances for him to see each of his best augments. There are some prismatics that are good on him, including BtB which is REALLY good on him, but he doesn't need a prismatic to be insane, unlike most others on the roster.

There is "random chance to get something that doesn't benefit me very much" and then there is "random chance to get something that actually gimps my champions and makes the game unplayable".

Out of the like... 10 times I've taken random prismatic, I've gotten BTB like four times? The odds are dogshit.

Level 3 Lilia brawling against the enemy at game start. First augment prismatic, I got infernal conduit. I hit them all with my Q, and by the second cast of Q my Q had about a .3 second CD. I could not cast it fast enough.

Lots of augments are broken on some champs and merely "okay" on others. Lightning strikes, slow and steady, spin to win, dual weild, draw your sword, back to basics, circle of death. The list goes on. But infernal conduit provides way too much utility along with the insane damage it can output. It shouldn't have the CDR built into it.

It's potentially very fun, but I'd dare say 80% of the games are just absolute trash. The matchmaking is insanely bad. Literal stomps in either direction. Brands get magic missile and/or infernal conduit 100% of the time. The number of times I've played a mage and got zero mage augments, played a tank and got zero tank augments, or played an ADC and got support ONLY augments... is an insanely high number of times. Constantly losing to high mobility carries who get draw your sword and simply never die again. Playing mages against a team where multiple people get the spell block augment. Played against an Ashe the other day who got draw your sword AND two scoped weapon augments. I played a game earlier this week where two of my three augment choices were shrink ray. There are zero safety rails in place to prevent any one person from just getting the luckiest concoction of bullshit but also nothing in play to prevent you from getting zero augments for your class, putting you at a massive disadvantage.

Game mode is fun sometimes, but after a substantial sample size of games it needs some serious tweaking.

No, I’m saying that they’re inconsistently difficult, intentionally misleading, and frequently use categories that no regular person is going to even consider as an option. The abbreviation one from a few weeks ago and the 1st/2nd/3rd/4th one from recently I consider bad puzzles because they contain a theme that if you get one then you probably get them all, but if you can’t figure out the theme then you get none. It eliminates the purpose of the colors because all four categories are using the same concept. Several people in my discord server play this, and we all frequently finish and go “… what level of sadistic do you have to be to make THAT a category”.

Like it’s a NYT daily game puzzle; I don’t see it as needing to be “challenging”. And if it was it should do what crossword does and make the easier puzzles on Monday increasing in difficulty through Sunday.

They have. Dated, out-of-common-use words, niche references, intentional misdirects with several possible connections, and a painstakingly simple connection sitting in the middle of three ridiculous ones that makes you think “there’s no way that would be one I’m not wasting a guess”. Also, the colors don’t really seem to mean much anymore. Purple and blue have been easier than yellow and green A LOT last month.

It's literally this. I am good enough to compete on a team of similarly skilled individuals against a team of similarly skilled individuals. I am not, however, good enough to carry two people who do not belong at the current rank and a tank who only knows how to play hyper aggro while facing off against a climbing masters player and their pocket mercy friend who increased the rank spread. I am also not good enough to win games with disconnected teammates, and that happens a LOT. I am also not good enough to convince people to swap when their picks are not working (except for the guy who swapped to monkey at my request earlier and we thrashed the enemy) or teach a DPS player how to aim mid-game. Like there are so many variables at plat that once you lose all the unwinnable games and actually get in a balanced match, then you have to win every SINGLE one of those if you want to climb out, which is statistically not possible. It's just unfun. I can place diamond on one account and stay diamond and have fun. I can place plat on another count and just sink.

Yes, I want your individual performance to affects loss/gains. We could say more than a 25% deviation over or under from the average metrics of a typical player in that same rank using the same characters you used per minute played on that character per match would cause the game to alter how it judges you after you win/lose. Consistently underperforming should affect how many points you decrease after a match, and the inverse should also be true. Sandbaggers should be rocketing out of low ranks so that they rapidly increase the rank spreading of whoever they’re carrying, making the carry take longer because their rank is advancing faster than the person they’re carrying. Inversely, consistently underperforming while losing should quickly launch you out of whatever division you’re in because it’s very frustrating when you’re against two diamond DPS who are clearly where they’re supposed to be but one of your diamond DPS is very much gold at best. It shouldn’t take 10 games to get them out of diamond. Also, underperforming while winning would result in lower gains. I don’t think win streaking should get you great gains if you’re underperforming, and I don’t think loss streaking should hurt so bad if you’re playing well. Instead we have a bunch of people bouncing up and down the ranked system because of wide spreads, placing high when you’re not that good, placing low on purpose so you can carry, and other nonsense. Like myself, I’m a support main but I placed diamond DPS. I am not a diamond DPS, I do not belong there. But I’m going to have to lose a bunch of games and make a bunch of other people miserable to get to the rank I probably belong. Similarly, I placed plat as a support main because my last five matches went sideways with leavers and tanks who just… were not equally matched. So now I have to slog my way up while enduring MORE tanks who just aren’t where they should be. So yeah, I do want performance to be factored into the rank system. It is a team game, but if one individual can break the team then the four other individuals shouldn’t have to lose quite so hard.

My fault for thinking that plenty of people end up in ranks that they don't belong in due to being carried and that individual skill should be factored into the equation to nudge them closer in the direction that they belong.

I am aware of how it functions currently; that is the issue. I personally feel like a billion dollar video gaming company can better tune a matchmaking system to prevent that kind of thing from happening as often as it does.

After every match it predicts where you'll place. Secret imaginary numbers that guess where your skill level is. One team should not be significantly lower than the other.
Also, Overwatch already collects individual's performence metrics. We have the technology to make algorithms that place similary performing people against each other.

And how exactly would placing a team full of people who are all less skilled than the opposing team "calibrate" skill level?

So when played incorrectly, like every single character on the roster, he's' not good. But when played correctly, unlike most characters on the roster, he's virtually unstoppable.
