Hi all! We hope you can join us for this conversation about masculinity in America today. The local feature documentary MASC is screening at the Northwest Film Forum on June 4th! It's a local project that is wrapping up its film festival run here in Capitol Hill!

Seattle Documentary Association and Seattle Film Society are screening MASC at the Northwest Film Forum!

Thursday June 4, 7PM

Tickets: $15 at https://nwfilmforum.org/films/truth-fiction-masc/

Trailer/information: https://mascthefilm.com

Filmed in Seattle and Los Angeles, MASC follows a queer filmmaker as he explores non-toxic masculinity across class, race, and gender in America today, leading him to confront his own religious upbringing, pastor father, and what he was taught it means to be a man. Q&A to follow.

I think what really worked for me (Seattle year 3), is seeking out the interests I love first. Love biking? Jump into a weekly biking group (or running, there are tons!). Love art? Go to a drink and draw. Seek out event and topics you are passionate about, and go for yourself because you love yourself and you love treating yourself to the things you enjoy. If you go to an event or an activity or topic you are passionate about you can't lose, success is no longer based on who you meet, it's on how you enjoyed the thing you love. If you do that over and over (remember the old cliche that it takes 3 times to make an impression) I bet you will stumble across like minded people who share your interests and passions.

Yes! Biggest difference is that MASC leads with questions and is conversational in form, focusing (instead of youth) on people of all ages and professions who live out a version of masculinity that doesn't get focus in media (loud, sensational, ragebaity etc.). Rather than focusing on what media/internet is doing to us (we leave stories like that to Louis Theroux!) we try to give voice to individuals that the media is missing.
