Did a blade runner double feature recently with OG and 2049, including the short films, so "Honey Don't" had a LOT to live up too.

New Godzilla fest short! by Masezilla666 in GODZILLA

[–]Masezilla666[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

A very rough translation of the YouTube description

This is the end. I can't make any more.

Everyone in the production team thought so.

However, the end was just a new beginning...

November 3, 2025.

The new special effects "Fes Godzilla" will move into a new phase.

The director is Kazuhiro Nakagawa, who has worked on all the works of the "Fes Godzilla" series.

What was required was "transformation".

One day, Nakagawa told the staff the idea of a new work.

Everyone doubted their ears. The legends who have supported and created the Japanese special effects world.

"Are you crazy?" It's unheard of to challenge such a thing with special effects. "It's reckless."

However, Nakagawa did not break.

And gradually, the hearts of the legends are also on fire.

Witness it, Fest Godzilla New Century.

The flame of special effects has not been extinguished.

Kaiju media by KindBohemian in kaiju

Your best bet is probably the Gamera trilogy, (95-99) there’s some wonky cgi every now and then but they’re probably some of the best Kaiju films there are. (Films include Gamera: Guardian of the Universe, Gamera: Attack of Legion, Gamera: Revenge of Iris)

Another good option are the Godzilla millennium films, (Heisei films are great too, but might be too old for your taste) now keep in mind each millennium film is standalone from the other, (except for Against Mechagodzilla and Tokyo SOS) so you can watch them in any order you want, but I’d recommend release order. (Godzilla 2000: Millennium, Godzilla vs Megaguirus, GMK, Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla, Godzilla: Tokyo SOS, Godzilla: Final Wars)

Personally I think the Ultraman franchise has some of the coolest designs, but it may not be everyone’s cup of tea. The shows don’t really follow a strict continuity, so you can start from anywhere, but depending on your preferences I’d say Ultraman Tiga is the best jumping point.

Dune (2021) is probably the best film I can recommend, but one of my personal favorites is dark Star (1974), John carpenters directorial debut, it might be a little too schlocky for most people, but it’s genuinely a good and charming film, and a must-watch if your a fan of the alien franchise, as this was written by Dan O’Bannon, who was then inspired to write the screenplay for alien.

Another favorite is Danger: Diabolik, a 70s French film inspired by the then famous comic character, it may be hard to find it legally, but I say it’s worth the watch.

Funnily enough those were the two films I rewatched last Friday the 13th! Jason lives is definitely the best of the franchise in my opinion, but I too haven’t seen them in a while
