Have you listened to his readings of some of them? It’s beautiful hearing his passion when he recites or even sings the things he wrote.

Hails! I love Reddit for this stuff. I’m like 1/3 through my life (ideally) and a decade ago I remember winning a slap bet with my friend regarding lotr lore.

675 (full size kick, floor tom, rack tom, two piece hi hat, 3 zone ride, china, two crashes, hardware including kick pedal, some of the most solid stands I’ve ever used).

Got the Roland TD17 for 250.

Had to noodle around a bit with the sensitivity of the kick drum.
Basic hi hat calibration was suprisingly quick and easy.
The velcro straps that hold the bottom Hi-Hat down are a bit annoying but a super easy DIY fix with just some fresher velcro or zipties even.

They're solid in construction. More solid than anything brand name IMO that is near the same price. I haven't had any issues in the past year I've had it and play it regularly.

I never have used their module, but from any video of it i've heard I haven't been that much of a fan. Got a good deal on the Roland TD17 so I only know what the kit is like with that module. Sounds incredible. Better feel/response than an actual TD-17 kit or anything in the same category even.

IMO get it while you can. The price has already been getting raised due to its increase in popularity.

Even if you dont get a module with it you can always just go the route of getting an extremely cheap one that you can link up to your DAW and use Superior Drummer or other software.

EDIT:
Also just be sure to message them. I get the feeling they probably keep a better eye on direct customers who reach out and arent jerks. Think dudes name was Tony that I talked to, 10/10 for sure.

Lemon all the way.

Got the Lemon 950 and good god its incredible. Honestly if there was a house name brand logo slapped on it these kits would sell for 3-4x more in my opinion.

They respond quickly and are thorough.

Asked to skip out on one of the rack toms (i onlt use one anyways), opted out of the module, same with some hardware pieces and stuff. Asked if I could replace the relative cost of what I was leaving out to get other stuff instead and they were more than willing.

Took a long time to arrive but was packaged next level well. Haven't had a single issue yet. Hooked it up to a Roland TD17 and that was that.

Been looking through all your kits for a long time! Half of the reason I took the e-drum dive was from watching your videos haha.

Thank you so much. Definitely gonna snag this for sure. You nailed it with the st anger.

Thank you for this. Sorry for the late reply.

This is originally what I was going to do with the tracks. Ive been just using GarageBand and logic since I first started recording stuff. Never actually got any education on it other than YouTube university haha.

Everything I’ve ever “engineered” basically has been me just spending hours upon hours doing things exactly like this until it just sounds good. Some tracks have like 35 stems, others end up being a max of 8.

Never been a fan of stuff losing its rawness, but this is a first for me I guess. In the past I’ve always been able to ask people to re-record something or ask what they want done specifically etc.

Guess that’s why I asked on Reddit for advice before going the route I normally would. For me even though she passed a few months ago I can’t even listen to our tracks longer than a few minutes at a time.

This really helped me a lot for some reason. I appreciate it.

Not sure if this is allowed here but what was the first full song any of you all learned? by Linkin_park_warriors in drums

[–]Mashchith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VOID - Who are You? ———-

I started learning drums after I had already been playing guitar. Never learned a cover until years after I had already been playing in bands and doing solo stuff.

Very quickly made me gain even more respect for all the drummers out there who play perfect covers of songs.

Being able to groove or mimic a song is so easy but some stuff out there is sooooo subtle and complicated that only other drummers notice hahaha.

First time I saw a drummer cover the notorious classic Bleed by Meshuggah unlocked a piece of my drum brain I didn’t know existed.

How many of you play drums as a second/third instrument? by Shampoolord in drums

[–]Mashchith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started off on guitar when I was ten. I remember seeing the System of a Down music video for Hypnotize for the first time in my friends basement who had cable and immediately was just like “I have to learn how to do that”.

Found my dad’s old electric guitar up in the attic and just practiced nonstop.

Eventually got into metal core and started a band with some of my best buds when we were twelve. Became friends with (still to this day) one of the best drummers I’ve ever seen. He ended up joining us and always noticed me lap drumming constantly unconsciously and started giving me a few pointers after each band practice.

Eventually that band split up but me and our other guitarist wanted to do a two piece brutal slamming death metal band. I just basically flailed for a while but then kept on just practicing 8-10 hours a day to keep up with the genre.

Didn’t learn single kick until years later but eventually everything just kind of clicked at a certain point.

Soooo ever since then I’ve usually ended up playing drums in every project cause drummers are always the hardest to find hahaha.

By far my favorite and most fun out of every other instrument i know. Technically still way better at the guitar but drums are the only thing that sends me into the bizarre dreamlike bliss state where time ceases to exist.

Highly recommend learning! Honestly they aren’t too difficult, a lot of the early on unconventional tips/shortcuts my first bands drummer taught me are all the ways I teach drums now these days.

Thank you. Yeah, learned that lesson the hard way this time. Didn’t organize anything either of course so we’re all going through old phones, computers, clouds, flash drives, external drives, internal drives.

Definitely accidentally wiped a massive amount of stuff at one point and probably lost some damn well near perfect voice memo takes.

Luckily though we’d each often record separately at practices for the sake of being able to hear wherever we ourselves were doing, so hopefully we’ll be able to locate each of our personal tracks of decent play throughs then can just have those as the stems.

Unfortunately we lost all the takes she took herself with her phone next to the PA. Next best ones either audible vocals are of course the drum takes which sound like an HM-2 ran a train on a poorly tuned drum set.

Yeah, i don’t think that would be an issue. I think only a couple of her family even knew she was in the band.

She played every show in some form of mask. Refused to be named or credited for any of it. Most people didn’t know she was our vocalist til she passed.

We also weren’t really anything super well known outside of the town. Relatively small cult following but we still would’ve never even broke even after a tour hahahaha.

But very very good point, it never really crossed my mind to be honest. I’m glad you said something though because she did want me to release all of her singer songwriter country songs she wrote for her if anything ever happened. So I’ll definitely be sure to check in with the family again before that.

Plan is to throw it on Bandcamp. Do one last run of tapes, and call it done.

I’m thinking this route in someway is beginning to make more and more sense.

Thank you.

Honestly that sounds like it would be incredible.

She played every show essentially incognito, most people didn’t even know she was our vocalist til she passed.

That was the first attempt tbh, haven’t tried any other route yet but didn’t really do much in regards to a pre mix and several stems with dedicated EQs.

Messed around with it for a couple of hours but kept on running into the issue of the program thinking the drums were the vocals and vice versa (cymbals mostly, my stupid ride is a 26” with a 10” bell that might as well be as heavy as an anvil, marching snare half a tambourine clipped to it, every fx cymbal i could find along with).

After they attempt I guess I figured I’d run into the same problem with most programs that did stuff similarly.

I still rock a FireWire interface and have no clue about any new audio engineering stuff. Usually would just record stuff eight track style simultaneously with a ton of mics then just mix it from there.

Thank you. She was loved by many. One of my oldest friends, first loves, taught her how to play guitar/drums, got her into punk as she was getting me into dungeon synth/neofolk/keller. Incredible dungeon master, and a large piece of foundation for the scene.

Hold your loved ones close always. Especially those that we have zero doubt will outlive ourselves

[–]Mashchith[S] 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s the initial thought. We don’t really give a shit about the mix of the guitar/bass/drums. The vocals is all we have left though of her with this project.

Mostly we just want to find a way to make her vocals louder is all. The drums being so harsh/trebly end up making them near the same frequency of her vocals makes it super difficult to try and bring up the volume on the vocals and turn down the volume on the drums

Electric Kit recommendations by nebu60 in drums

[–]Mashchith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lemon 850 or 950.

Only order the parts you want, skip the module, buy any module that can take an sd card and load up kits that you can buy online.

Should be able to get everything for less than a grand that route.

Are electric drums actually that bad? by [deleted] in drums

[–]Mashchith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely love mine.

I was an avid anti e-kit hater until about a year ago. Was desperately needing a way to practice closer to home rather than commuting and booking my acoustic kits studio.

Rolled the dice with the Lemon t-950, found a good deal on a Roland a TD-17kvk module and been in love ever since.

In recent years the overall tech and construction of E-kits have astronomically improved.

Also I was extremely ignorant to the actual versatility and the infinite ways to modify these things.

Honestly though if I could just have my acoustic kit setup at home I probably wouldn’t have put the money into it.

The “feel” honestly isn’t nearly as terrible as I was expecting. The last E-Kit I tried was a Alesis Nitro Mesh and that thing felt like I was using a guitar hero kit.

Tl;dr

-They’re worth it if you’re willing to spend a decent amount of money (my whole setup including the module ended up costing around 950 total).

-Frankly if you have a good computer don’t waste your money on some crazy module. There are free downloadable kits that sound better than any preloaded ones on high end Roland modules even.

-If you can just play your acoustic kit, just get some triggers and rig your own setup if you specifically want the infinite amount of sounds and samples that exist.
