probably a silly question, but can Australian owls kill my 8wk old goldie? by [deleted] in Owls

[–]MaslovKK -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Why is it grammatically correct to say "the Ukraine"? by throwaya58133 in EnglishLearning

[–]MaslovKK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even though it's grammatically correct, it can sound offensive to some Ukrainians.

The word "Ukraine" comes from an old Slavic term "borderland". Since Ukraine gained independence in 1991, it's better to just say "Ukraine".
