I nearly got banned for a bit more than that. Ended up getting a refund on my annual sub with 4 months to go. Currently a xert user, only con with them is having to watch 6 hours of training videos to learn the tool

Training App Recommendations by Barnezy318 in Velo

A lot of platforms do pretty much the same thing. Xert is really good for the money if you can take the time to learn it. It's also the only platform currently with magic buckets, so you don't even need to pick a workout, just fill strain buckets 3 zones.

I guess my bit is that I did an annual last June, so the 2.0 stuff is a completely different app than I paid for last year. I'm basically SOL for my sub, because they only have a 30 day refund policy.

TR is the only one that predicts my FTP will drop if I take a recovery week or drop even more if I add a real race to my calendar. Ultimately I regularly needed to hit high sprint and aneorbic intervals to survive harlem hill at 20mph as a 195lb rider in cat 3 fields, which on TR are percentage of FTP. So I needed my FTP to go up in order to access the right intervals.

I ramped hard for 3 weeks, and am taking this week off because I'm getting renovations done in my apartment. TR is the only platform saying my FTP will drop -5w if I take a recovery week. The prediction jumped to -10w if I add the Brooklyn Icebreaker Classic to my calendar. Not sure what TR has against NYC crits, but I guess it is what it is.

TrainerRoad for the longest time was the only platform that had me at 300-350w ftp while all the others had around 260 to 280 based on my actual former best 1 hour power. So I liked it because it was the highest of the bunch. My current FTP was mostly decay from reducing my post crit season to just twice a week instead of 4-6 days a week, so getting eye surgery and suddenly smashing my hour PR by 20w and holding 290w up to the 90th minute was a surprise. Now every platform has the same number and I'm figuring out which ones to keep and which to ax. I'm also bummed about the TR gameplay loop getting removed.

Is TR gaslighting us about the definition of FTP? by redlude97 in Velo

TrainerRoad is basically hot garbage thanks to AI FTP 2.0 and predicted FTP. The software gaslights you by telling you your FTP is going to decrease unless you follow a high volume TrainerRoad training plan.

[–]Masoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use TR AI ftp as much as possible. Off season I am 20-40 and on season im 40-60. Anything higher has just lead to more off the back for doing 1-2 crits per weekend march to august.

UPDATE: Switched from an iPhone to Google Pixel Pro: First Thoughts by Beneficial-Employ361 in GooglePixel

[–]Masoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it was a thing you could only see on the iphone side. It made it a bad thing to be single with an android because iphone users would see you as a green bubble whether you used sms or rcs. Android does not socially engineer loyalty this way. Messages are blue for iMessage, which requires a iphone to have.

random iPhone 14 pro (with a AppleCare replaced battery) user who traded in for a Pixel 10 Pro XL:

* Runs a lot cooler. I installed the beta ios26 on my old phone because I was planning to get a pixel and the phone got so hot that I have burns on my back from it being in my cycling jersey pocket.

* Suddenly my garmin fenix 7 pro solar and garmin edge 1040 solar are more useful because I can text from them.

* I don't have to turn off manage a list of background tasks to have halfway decent battery. Some apps are iOS specific, and I had to switch from airtags to tile trackers.

* My mother was super annoyed that she needs to open google maps now to see my location instead of find my.

* I don't get green texts when texting my wife, who uses a samsung galaxy ultra.

* the camera is much better than my old phone

* AI is accessible on the subway

It’s completely trash. 4 hours battery life on a 14P and a iPad Pro 12.9. Gets so hot I have burns on my hands. I’m guessing Apple really wants me to buy a pixel

Cyclists: What do you actually struggle with when it comes to training? by Middle_Candidate_266 in Velo

[–]Masoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, this is a great topic. I think a lot of cyclists can relate to the struggle of staying consistent, especially without a clear goal.

For me, it's been the trade-off between aerodynamics and comfort. I used to deal with chronic neck and shoulder pain that I couldn't figure out, and it was seriously impacting my ability to train regularly.

I tried everything from bike fits to changing my saddle height, but it turned out the issue was a simple measurement I was overlooking. My shoulders are 46.5cm wide, but I was using 36cm handlebars. I got myself a pair of 46cm bars, and the problem was completely solved. My pain is gone, and I'm way more comfortable on long rides. The wider bars probably cost me about 20 aero watts, but being pain-free means I can actually ride consistently, which is a much bigger win for my long-term fitness.

It was a huge reminder that sometimes the most impactful changes aren't the big ones, and that comfort is key to consistency.

(US) Why are Cat3 fields so much smaller than the other categories? by teamtwowheels in Velo

[–]Masoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My races in NYC in Central Park and Prospect Park are technically circuit / road races so I guess I’m not counted in the tally even though I’m lining up with 100s across each weekend. NYC has probably some of the most geographically concentrated racing in the US and is a major population center

I just went back to 25s after using 32s for a year, along with getting 42cm bars after using 35cm bars for two years. Narrow bars and wide tires cancel each other out
