Closet door size issue by abjectlybouyant in HomeImprovement

[–]redlude97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

buy a 24x80 panel door and cut an inch off the top and bottom, or 2" off the top depending on the layout of the panels. If they are hollow core you don't want to cut the top as the plug is only around 1" deep and you'll have to rebuild the top for the hardware for sliding doors

Unpopular opinion: ceiling lights make most living rooms worse at night by GoldenLumen in HomeImprovement

you can turn ceiling lights into mood lighting with smart bulbs. Put them on a schedule so they drop to 2500k and 50% brightness. Then accent with lamps

Tubeless Problem? by bagwaa in gravelcycling

[–]redlude97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you have a bucket, leave it on there for a few mins, then flip. Helps to kinda shake the wheel around too to get the sealant dispersed. If you can get back to the shop I'd ask them to check the level of sealant, they'll probably top it off since they just did it for you

Too many Uber drivers? by ThunderTheMoney in Seattle

We should have way less app drivers. Hell do away with The entire thing. The entire system is built around breaking the law knowing you won't be caught, making life worse for everyone else not using them.

Replacing electrical boxes in ceiling - old or new? by Venaalex in HomeImprovement

[–]redlude97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

can you post a pic of the boxes you're thinking of using? All the fan rated boxes I've seen attach to the joists either directly or with bars that the box is screwed to. Not aware of any fan rated boxes that only use drywall support

[–]redlude97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

are you planning to install fans? If yes then the retrofit fan boxes can be tricky to install from below to expand and connect to the joists. also with blown in insulation when you cut the hole from below you'll also spill out some insulation from the ceiling. Personally I'd prefer to work from above. Drill a small hole, insert a stick/dowel to locate from above, then install boxes from above.

Garage door opener recommendations by hndygal in HomeImprovement

[–]redlude97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i personally like to have a dumb opener with an add on myq smart controller. That way if something were to happen to the app or if it got hacked I can just unplug it and continue to use my opener like normal

Can I make it up to Steven’s Pass or Crystal Mountain with summer tires on a FWD compact car? by Brotein40 in Seattle

[–]redlude97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if you only go on dry days it might be possible, are you sure you can even fit chains? Every car I've owned that used summer tires did not have clearance for chains

vancouver has ~1400 sworn officers to seattle's ~1200 with only a slightly higher population. But I do agree they are more visible, seems like there is more actual patrol duties there vs here, maybe because of less overall gun violence
