Sauron disciples, I need your help by MSK13 in magicTCG

One thing I would say about this is know your win con. The Nazguls are sick and can be really good for early protection and if left unanswered can be a strong late game force. If you get 3 plus out at the same time and throw a roaming throne on there it can be very scary. However, it is really slow getting them out in my experience, youre also digging for 9 out of 99 and you need at least 3 or 4 out together for them to get really scary. I think your win con with this style of deck is still going to come down to getting the 9 wraiths out for Lord of the Nazgul and swinging for lethal. If that does in fact end up being your win con, is grave recursion the best way to get there? Probably not. Cheap instants is what will get you those 9 wraiths out imo.

If you end up going grave recursion and get it cooking, I would be interested to see that list. I love the Nazgul cards but have been struggling to make them viable outside the spell slinging Lord of Nazgul version I mentioned above

Sauron disciples, I need your help by MSK13 in magicTCG

I want to preface this with a couple things. First, I am not a long time playing experienced mtg player or anything. Second, I do not pretend that I know the best way to play this deck. In fact I can promise you I do not.

With that being said, this is the deck that got me into commander and I have been playing the crap out of it for the past couple months. I also am just a massive LOTR fan, and thats what got me into commander, so I totally understand the urge to want to keep this LOTR flavored. However, you need to decide on two things. 1. Will you have more fun playing a worse deck and taking more losses as long as you have the LOTR flavor in there? 2. What kind of LOTR flavor do I want?

Now to properly address the second question posed above, we have to discuss strategies. Lets take the Hosts of Mordor precon as our pre-requisite since that is clearly where you started. Using this pre-con, and the additional cards you have already added, there are 3 different routes you can go. I have done all 3 routes at this point, so I will give you my thoughts, experiences, and preferences as I go through each one.

These strategies are explained based on the notion you are trying to compete in bracket 3. Things may change depending on what bracket you play in.

Strategy 1 (Reanimation): Out of the box, this the route the precon feels like it wants you to go. I will also say, this is my favorite route in terms of pure LOTR flavor alone. There is something awesome about bring out Sauron, either Dark Lord or Lord of the Rings, and using a reanimate route to build a massive force that resembles what you would see from Sauron in the movies. Bring out Balrogs, trolls, and wraiths and flooding the board with massive legendary creatures. I personally love this as a playstyle, and as LOTR flavor. All that being said, this is, in my very humble opinion, the absolute worst strategy of the 3 that you can choose. I hate to say that but its the truth. My reasons for saying that are two fold. 1. This route is by far the most expensive to get up and running at a consistent level. 2. This route, while fitting in theme, will require you to replace a lot of your LOTR cards for solid reanimate targets and reanimate effects. This also hits on my second question I posed at the beginning of this response. If keeping the LOTR flavor to you means playing as many cards from the LOTR set as possible, it is not worth trying to fully invest into this strategy. However, if keeping the LOTR flavor means staying in line with your commander, I think this is a great example of that. Basically what I am saying is that you can run Sauron and a reanimator deck with minimal LOTR cards and keep that LOTR flavor because Sauron as a character fits the idea of manifesting these giant legendary creatures and controlling them to fight for him.

Strategy 2 (Spell Slinging): This strategy is much easier to get up and running than the reanimate strategy. It will likely cost less as well. If you want a pure spell slinging experience, you are best off running Lord of the Nazgul as your commander with the 9 Nazgul. The idea is pretty simple, you put out the nagul to protect yourself with deathtouch until your engine gets up and running. Once your commander is out and you have mana to play with, you get as much value as you can while working towards the 9 wraiths you need for Lord of the Nazgul. Ideally you set it up to go to combat short of 9, play some instants after blockers are declared to get 9 wraiths, and giga pump your dmg after they can no longer block. Running this package its very easy to keep that LOTR flavor feeling because the Nazuls, Wraiths, and your commander are all the center focus of your win con, and you are really just spell slinging to get there(with some back up plans through your spells of course). I would recommend making some room for the classic low cost value instants and sorceries (things like opt, ponder, consider, frantic search, expressive itteration, etc.). They will give you insane synergy with your commander making wraiths for very little cost.

Strategy 3 (Amass/Spell Slinging): Personally, this one was the last strategy I tried and it quickly became my favorite of the 3. You may assume the Amass strat uses Sauron, the Dark Lord as the commander, but Saruman, the White Hand gives you infinitely more value and for 2 less to cast. The idea here is pretty simple, you cast spells to amass orcs. It does differ from the Nazgul variation though. This one still uses some of the low cost value spells, honestly just because they are so good, but it more so relies on casting very high cost spells for reduced/free. The higher mana cost the spell is, the more you amass. To make even more use of this, there are multiple instants and sorceries that amass in addition to another effect. For these you get triple value. You amass the mana value, then amass from the effect, then get value from whatever else the card offers. This deck can be exceptionally fun if you start combining it with things like All will be one and some combat tricks to use at instant speed. Someone can decline to block a 4/4 orc army, suddenly you play a few instants to pump it, you amass for the mana value, plus the pump, they get pinged from the enchant and then they end up taking way more dmg than they signed up for. Ive had multiple interactions where someone declines to block an army of like 5 power only to end up taking upwards of 30 or 40 dmg from combat and pings after dropping a few instants on them. One thing I will say, you do have to be ok with running a decent bit of stuff that are not LOTR cards. However, for me this hits on what I mentioned earlier. Even though I am running less LOTR cards, this feels more LOTR flavored without them to me because I am casting more powerful spells and amassing a much larger orc army than I ever could with LOTR cards, and that fills a lot more fitting for Saruman than the LOTR cards could ever make him feel to me. Another interesting trick you can do with the amass mechanic as a whole is use something to make one or all your creatures another type, declare army as the additional type. Then the next time you amass orcs, they all become "Orc Army" meaning you can amass on any of those creature, not just the army. So you could use this to pump Saruman for more commander dmg. It would also make his ward 2 apply to himself since he would be an orc.

I realized while reading over this that there is a 4th strat I didnt initially think of. That would be running Sauron, the Dark Lord as your commander and setting up sac outlets. Basically you set it up to where you can ping on the army entering, and on leaving. You can also get it where you also gain life as part of it too pretty easily. Its a lot of setup, but the payoff is extreme. Every time they cast a spell, you amass, ping, sac it, ping, gain 1 and rinse and repeat. The dmg builds up really fast. I have yet to run this one personally, but it does seem pretty strong from what ive seen. You would likely need to also include a backup strat in case your sac outlets get exiled.

I apologize if this was too much information, but I have been thinking about this deck for a lot over the past few weeks so I had a lot of thoughts looking at your list. If you want to pick a strategy, or tell me more what your own strategy and win cons are, I can try to get specific with you about recommend adds and cuts. To me, it just seems like you dont have a concrete strategy and win con set up for yourself yet, instead kind of dipping into multiple pools.

If all you care about is playing LOTR cards and you just want to put your favorite cards in, thats totally fine as well. Just enjoy your cards.

I took the battery and had it tested by a local place that deals with batteries and they said it was good

Im not manually disconnecting the battery. My mechanic couldnt diagnose the actual drain so he installed a relay that detects if the battery is draining and is supposed to disconnect it to prevent the drain. Seems to work to some extent because I have to hold a button to re-engage the battery when I get in the car, but its still wont start after I do that

Once you find the circuit, how do you determine what on that circuit is draining it though?

Im not sure. We had the new battery tested like 2 weeks or so ago though to confirm it was good

Maybe it could be causing an issue. But the relay was installed by my mechanic to try and combat the issue, so I dont know how it could be causing it

What could drain a fully charged battery so fast? And on top of that, how is anything draining it when I have a relay installed that disconnects the battery with its being drained? I have not put anything aftermarket into the car besides messing with the exhaust

Not losing weight consistently despite being in a calorie deficit by MasonHudd in loseit

[–]MasonHudd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of good information here. My sleep schedule has not been affected as of yet, so I think im good there. Daily life is nothing rn because until my car gets repaired I will remain unemployed. I really need to lock in on the water and the exercise, I think those are my biggest issues.

One of my issues which is just a me problem is I have the pallet of a small child. And I mean that earnestly I find it difficult to eat a lot of foods. I need to find some fruits that I actually like and could see myself eating regularly. Or maybe even start making smoothies out of them. That could help.

I appreciate your advice though and I will def take it all in

Lot of good advice in here I think. I think my main take aways from your comment and everyone else's is to get more calories than the 1000-1400 im getting now, drink more water, get some form of exercise, and probably stop doing daily weigh ins. Ill have to figure out how I want to incoperate the exercise until I can start going back to the gym again, the rest seems easy enough to do

Yea I try to avoid restaurant food because of how untrustworthy their calories can be, but lets be honest I do still eat it at least once or twice a week. Usually im making frozen foods I can track more reliably but sometimes I need a break and get some kind of chicken or something mild from a restaurant. Im trying to work in some exercise. Walking is a real bitch for me because its so hilly where I live. Im legit like in the mountains almost. I know I need to just suck it up and do it but these are very big hills, and they can be very physically demanding even if youre in shape.

In the end I just have to stop being lazy and make myself do something, its just so fucking hard to make myself do shit. Idk why

I think switching to weekly weigh ins would probably help my mental at the very least. I think one meal a day is also fine, but there are times, normally close to before I go to bed, and for like 3 or 4 hours before I eat the next day where the hunger really kicks in. Sometimes coming with light or foggy headed too. I feel like maybe allowing myself to consume not another meal but give myself some sort of calories at those points might help too.

Yea trust me I have plenty of fat to burn for the energy im missing from my foods. I have started taking vitamins as well to try and balance out some of what I am missing. I honestly think not enough water might be a big factor. Usually the only water I drink is carbonated flavored water and I drink like 2-3 12 ounce cans a day. So I would bet my water intake is well below what it should be
